A Jeep isn't complete without a trailer hitch so you can do some mild towing, so today we're going to be installing this Rugged Ridge 2-inch Receiver Hitch kit on our 2008 Jeep Wrangler. This kit from Rugged Ridge comes with everything you need to properly install a hitch so you can put your Jeep to work. It comes with a 2-inch hitch receiver, a four-way wiring harness, a 2-inch chrome ball and drawbar, a hitch pin, and all the necessary hardware. This kit's very straightforward to install and will allow you to get the most out of your Jeep, so today we're going to install it on our 2008 Jeep Wrangler.

Tools you'll need for this installation: a Phillips screwdriver, 19mm wrench, 18mm wrench, and a big adjustable wrench.

This kit is actually really easy to install. We're going to start off by installing the trailer harness by removing the driver's side tail light. To remove this tail light, all you have to do is remove the two inner screws. Disconnect the tail light harness. Grab your harness from Rugged Ridge and connect it to the tail light and to the tail light harness.

Now you have a harness with a trailer plug. To get this down to where you need it, there's a small hole back in this pocket that you're going to run this through, and it'll come out over here. You can see the trailer harness hanging down now, so we're going to reinstall the tail light.

Next part's pretty simple. All we have to do is bolt the hitch onto the Jeep with the provided hardware. There's already holes drilled in the frame from the factory for this so all you need to do is raise up the receiver and line it up with the holes, and then put a washer on the provided bolts and install them. Get the other bolts installed.

Now you can install the nuts. Now, it's not going to be the easiest thing to do, but the next step is to install the washers and nuts on these bolts, between the frame and the bumper. It's definitely easier if you just get your fingers up there and hold the nuts and then thread the bolt into the nut, and then you can get your wrenches on it. You can now tighten the nuts and bolts using a 19mm wrench on the nut and an 18 on the bolt.

We have the hitch fully bolted in. The next thing we're going to do is take the trailer harness and install the plug right here. And there you go. It's nice and secure. Now you can clean up the wiring. Last thing we have to do is install the tongue with the ball. Line it up with the hole in the receiver, install your pin, and you're done.

Our Rugged Ridge Trailer Hitch is now installed, and our Jeep is ready to do some work. Overall, installation was pretty simple, but getting the nuts in between the bumper and hitch can be pretty tricky. Installation shouldn't take you more than an hour, and before you know it you'll be heading off-road.
