The factory bumper on your JK is great for the highway, but if you want to take your Jeep on more extreme trails, then you're gonna want to look at this Smittybilt XRC Rear Bumper, featuring a hitch fitting your 2007 and 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
This Smittybilt Rear Bumper features a three-sixteenth inch cold-rolled steel construction, with a durable textured black powder coat. It has a one-piece welded design, with an integrated hitch receiver to allow you to still be able to tow once you put it on.
It features better departure angles and it's going to give your Jeep a much more aggressive look on the back end. Now, we're gonna get into selling our 2008 Jeep Wrangler.
Tools needed for this installation, quarter-inch ratchet, ten-millimeter socket, three-eighth inch ratchet, five-eighth inch socket, a long extension, half-inch ratchet, three-quarter inch socket, ten-millimeter box wrench, three-quarter inch box wrench, three-eighth inch drill bit, a drill, and safety glasses.
Before we can install our new Smittybilt XRC Rear Bumper, we've got to remove our factory bumper here. Our Jeep is up on a lift. That's just so you guys can see it a little bit easier on how to remove this.
You have to get this bracket pulled off, and you start by removing these two bolts here. Once those two bolts are removed, let's move on to the next bolt. The next bolt to remove is right on the crossmember, and it's right by your tailpipe. You're gonna repeat the same process on the other side. There's two more bolts on the outside of the frame and then one right here on the crossmember.
It's gonna be a little tight, but now we're going to remove the factory bumper.
If your Jeep is equipped with a factory tillage or if you've added an aftermarket one, you're going to need to remove it, as the new bumper actually has one of those in.
Grab the provided brackets and slide them into the frame rail here. Line them up so that way the welded nuts are right inside. That way, you put your bumper on the outside and you can put the bolt through and then that will hold.
Using a friend, make sure that you pick up on the edges of the bumpers to get the bolts into the inside of the frame rail. It can be a little bit tricky, but it's able to be done.
Grab an extra set of hands and have them pull up on the bumper as you're tightening it down. This will make sure it's nice and level.
If you have the outer bolts on, the next step is to secure this hitch receiver. Use these four bolts that are provided and they slide through the back and then get nuts on the other side. They can be a little bit tricky to get started, however, they will go in.
Once they're all in, go ahead and put a washer on the back side and then tighten up the nuts.
If your Jeep came with a trailer wiring harness, go ahead and grab the included bracket and mock it up to a place where you want to put it. This is going to accept the four-way prongs right into here and keep a nice, secure place for your harness. I'm gonna put it right about here, mark it out, and then drill it.
I'm gonna go ahead and put the included bracket on. I'm gonna put it behind there. That way, it's a nice, clean look. Go ahead and put the hardware through. Then we'll put a washer and a locknut on the backside. Go ahead and put your wiring harness right back in the spot.
And your installation is complete.
We've got the Jeep back on the ground and the installation of our XRC Rear Bumper is complete. This thing looks awesome compared to that factory bumper. And if you did have a factory Jeep, this gap here wouldn't be there. We have a one-inch body lift, so that's why you're seeing it.
We've now got a place for some D-rings and our hitch. That way, we can still tow. The installation only took about two hours and you only need some basic hand tools.
Now, you can find this rear bumper, as well as many other great parts for your JK, right here at CJPonyParts.com.
