V8 Ram Air Kit 1971-1973 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pricey - Works Fine Purchased it a few months ago and finally got it installed. Disappointed in that CJPonyParts still have not corrected the issue with the screws connecting the snorkel to the air cleaner. Packaging failed to protect the air cleaner top from some minor damage during shipping. Was also missing the 'T' vacuum joint. For the price and given issues have been identified by other reviewers 8 months and a year ago, I'd expect CJPonyParts to improve the quality but they have not. Also was an issue in getting the order out as some parts were backordered causing issues for me re Canada Customs. The unit itself looks great when properly painted to match your engine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well with some effort First off, the packaging could be better. The first air cleaner I received had a damaged cover. There was no padding the manufacturer's box. To CJ Pony Parts' credit, they sent me a new air cleaner assembly asap. The integral threads in the air cleaner assembly are NOT correct for attaching the snorkel. Not only did they not line up correctly with the holes in the snorkel, but they are not the original thread. The bolts that CJ Pony Parts supplies are the original thread, so they do not work. It appears that the original bolts are 10-32. The threads are a courser thread. I tried 10-24, but ended up breaking off both heads... that is on me and my lack of patience. I ended up drilling out both screws and using sheet metal screws (I did not want nuts that could loosen up in the air cleaner). The sheet metal screws worked well, and look okay. CJ Pony Parts did refund me for the bolts that come in the kit, but they really need to get on to supplying the right bolts, so people don't have to make multiple hardware store runs to put this kit together

If you switch from a non nasa to nada hood with the ram air assembly, do you also need to change the hinges?

Asked by: A Snare
Aaron, technically you can use the factory non-NASA hinges but after a few months the hinges will weaken and eventually fail. The NASA hinges are heavier duty and used stronger flat-sided steel to make the coils. I restored my Mustang 3 years ago and was told the standard hinges would be fine but within a few months they would no longer hold up the hood. One other solution I have seen in the forums is to weld up the last coil or two to make the spring stronger. I was fortunate to locate a used set of NASA Hood Hinges & Springs. Cleaned them up and works great.

V8 Ram Air Kit 1971-1973 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: We're here with a Ram Air Kit for your '71 through '73 Mustang. The kit includes an original style Mustang ram air air cleaner box with the lid and a snorkel with the correct actuator. It includes the under hood plenum with the dual snorkels with the actuators already installed, as well as a seal that go from the air cleaner box to the plenum. All your vacuum lines are included, along with a vacuum diagram and all your installation hardware. Although we plan on a full installation of the ram air kit sometime in future, one of the more common questions we get is how to install the seal to the air box.

I want to show you how to do that real quick. The seal has this edge, as seen here. The way this seal ships, it's actually inside out. If you want to turn the seal inside out to install it ... and now that edge goes underneath this lip. You want to make sure it is all the way under or it will not hold in. It's best to pull the edge out and then flip it underneath. Make sure it is tucked all the way around. You're ready to install in your car. This Complete Ram Air Assembly for your '71 to '73 will fit all body styles. It does require the use of an original or reproduction NACA style hood.
