1979 Mustang Carburetors

The 1979 Mustang was built right around the time when electronic fuel injection began appearing in automobiles, but it still maintained a carbureted design. So even though the third-generation Mustang appeared drastically different from previous Mustangs, this was one design aspect that remained until 1986.

The carburetor gives life to your engine - its job is to mix the air and fuel into the proper ratio, which is then fed into the cylinder heads of your engine. From there, a spark occurs in the combustion chamber that moves the pistons of your engine, bringing the whole operation to life. If your engine isn’t running right, it may be time to replace the carburetor.

Repairing or Replacing your Carburetor

If you’re experiencing hard starts, rough idling, hesitation, flooding or poor gas mileage, you may want to rebuild your carburetor, as there are a few components to the carburetor that can fail and cause these issues. Additionally, the carburetor may need to be cleaned, because if valves get clogged or blocked, fuel can’t move into the engine the way it’s supposed to.
