Debuting in the 2010 model year, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor stunned consumers with its aggressive off-road styling. Since that debut, the model has delivered on all of its promises, becoming one of the most popular in the Ford family. The Raptor is part of Ford's SVT (Special Vehicle Team) division. It is equipped with upgrades over the standard F-150 such as Fox Racing Shox with 11.2" of suspension travel in the front and 12.1" of travel in the rear. The SVT model also adds wider body panels, fender flares and a unique front grille. Specifically developed 35" BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires round out the SVT Raptor performance package.
The Raptor was initially available in the SuperCab model only. In 2011, a full four-door SuperCrew model was added along with the previous SuperCab 2-door version. Initially, the available engines included the 5.4L V8 and the monster, 411 horsepower 6.2L V8, although for the 2011 SVT Raptor, the 2012 SVT Raptor, 2013 SVT Raptor and 2014 SVT Raptor, the 6.2L V8 was the only option available. Every F-150 Raptor comes equipped with a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and an electronic shift-on-the-fly 4WD system. The SVT Raptor also features an electronic locking rear differential.
The aftermarket Ford Raptor 6.2L performance parts segment has been very strong since the Raptor was first released. Ford owners are part of a long legacy of modification and upgrades, striving to improve performance wherever and however possible. With power, suspension, wheels, exterior and other upgrades available, owners can make their own SVT Raptor even more unique. CJ's offers the best performance parts at market leading low pricing.

2017 Ford Raptor Reboot
After a two-year hiatus, for the 2017 model year, the Ford Raptor returned much to the delight of off-roading enthusiasts and American truck aficionados across the globe. The two years in the wilderness seemed like an eternity to many Ford fans, as many believed that the Raptor had established itself as one of the premiere performance-oriented pickups on the planet during its previous run.
The Ford Raptor rose from the ashes with much of what its admirers knew and loved still intact, with a few noticeable modifications sprinkled in. First and foremost, the Ford Motor Company dropped the “SVT” nameplate, meaning that every unit produced after the 2014 model year would simply be known as a “Ford Raptor.” Ford’s Special Vehicle Team now operates under the Ford Performance banner.
The changes under the hood for the 2017 Raptor also had the truck community buzzing. For the reboot, the 6.2L V8 joined the SVT nameplate out in the pasture and in its place, Ford inserted an ultra-efficient 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost motor. The all-new EcoBoost engine allowed the Raptor to produce between 450-500 horsepower while providing noticeable gains in torque as well.
Paired with the innovative 10-speed automatic transmission, the 2017 Ford Raptor delighted off-roading fans across the globe with its unrivaled performance capabilities on the roadway and the trail. The exterior changes to the 2017 Raptor were primarily aesthetic, but it was impossible not to be in awe of the rugged, tough aluminum-bodied pickup. Despite the larger frame, Ford was able to shed roughly 500 pounds from the 2017 model, making the latest Raptor the leanest and meanest yet!
The relaunch of the F-150 spinoff was met with critical acclaim, and the notoriety continued well into the following autumn. One year after the reboot, the Ford Raptor earned Motor Trend Magazine’s coveted Truck of the Year award for 2018, marking the first such recognition for the Raptor.
With the vehicle’s ever-growing legacy, combined with the many custom Ford Raptor parts available in the aftermarket, you will be able to accomplish things on the trail in which your non-Raptor friends could only attempt in their wildest dreams!
Already a Legend
It usually takes decades for a new vehicle model to create a name for itself. Cars like the Ford Mustang have been around for multiple generations and are respected because the breed is constantly and consistently improved. Ford created a whole new market segment back in 2010 with a true full-size off-road pickup, direct from the factory. In just a few years, the SVT Raptor earned a name for itself as a true off-road warrior. Designed by the Special Vehicles Team, it had the looks and equipment to back up the name:
- A powerful 5.4L V8 engine (replaced with a 6.2L V8 in 2011)
- A tough-looking wide body with massive fenders and wheel well arches
- A unique grille with huge Ford script (minus the standard Ford logo)
- Fox Racing shocks at all corners with over 11 inches of suspension travel
The original Raptor was one serious truck. It would barely fit in most parking spaces, but that wasn't a problem because it was usually found on the toughest off-road tracks and trails, such as the famous Baja 1000 desert race. Four by four enthusiasts were instantly impressed with the Raptor, and they set out to quickly find ways to customize their Raptors and make them even more capable.
As you can imagine, a high-performance specialty truck like the Raptor caught the attention of our gearheads here at CJ's. We put together a catalog of great parts designed to get even more performance out of Ford's top truck.
As much as we like the current Raptor, when we heard that Ford was replacing their popular F-150 truck lineup for 2015 with an all-new aluminum bodied version with weight savings of up to 700lbs, we were confident that a new Raptor would follow. And we were right.
At the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January, Ford showed us their next Raptor, which loses the SVT moniker for 2017. Two versions will be available, the 133" wheelbase SuperCab, and the longer 144-inch wheelbase SuperCrew.
More Raptor per Square Inch
When you create a market segment like Ford did with the original SVT Raptor, you get to decide where it goes next. That's the advantage of being a leader. To make the new Raptor even more capable off-road, Ford engineers applied some seriously advanced engineering:
- They shaved over 500lbs off of the truck. Using aluminum body panels and a high-strength steel frame, Ford created a lighter truck that can be better tuned for acceleration, braking and off-road prowess. The military-grade aluminum and extensive corrosion protection means that the new Raptor will resist dents, dings and corrosion better than ever.
- The heavy 6.2L V8 will be replaced with a much lighter yet more powerful 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Turbocharged, like the rest of the EcoBoost family of engines, Ford has promised it will out power the sturdy old 6.2L. We've even heard whispers of more than 450hp. Considering the new Ford GT will have over 600hp out of a version of the same engine, we don't think 450 is such a stretch in the Raptor.
- One of the key components of the Raptor from the beginning was its aggressive shocks with huge travel and ability to handle the harshest of off-road abuse. Ford has upped the ante with the 2017 Ford Raptor by increasing the diameter of the Fox Racing shocks from 2.5" to 3.0". Expect even greater travel than before - currently 11.2" in the front and 12.1" in the back.
- An all-new 10-speed transmission designed to make the best use of the EcoBoost powerplant. With 10 gears, the computer-controlled transmission will always find the right gear for every situation. Channeling that power through an all-new 4x4 transfer case with a terrain management system that can be configured for various off-road situations - like hill descent, rock climbing and snow and water crossing - means the Raptor will go exactly where you tell it to go.
You see, we weren't joking. Ford realizes that the huge initial success of the current Raptor can only be continued if they kick the off-road performance up a notch. Obviously we have to wait to hear the exact numbers when the production model is announced, but there's no question that the 2017 Raptor will outshine the original. You can even bump your 2017 Raptor's exterior appearance up a notch by adding an Addictive Offroad Design prerunner bumper for the ultimate off-road look.
Don't Hate It Because It's Beautiful
A pretty face may not be the most important criteria when buying a dedicated off-road performance vehicle like a Ford Raptor, but it doesn't hurt. The 2017 Raptor takes the tough, aggressive look of the original to the extreme. As with the standard F-150 models, the Raptor will carry lightweight, corrosion resistant body panels, though the front and rear fenders are unique to the Raptor and flare out significantly to cover the massive wheels and tires.
The headlights follow the theme of the F-150's units, but are more of a high-tech design. The grille is 100% unique for the Raptor, with huge 'FORD' lettering written across the front. The same goes across the tailgate. This truck is proud of its Ford heritage. Custom wheel designs and Raptor badging will make it clear this isn't just any old pickup.
Of course the interior will be getting some attention too.
Front to back, inside and out, under the hood and at all four corners: there's no denying that the 2017 Ford Raptor is a truly unique machine, and a significant upgrade to the base F-150. We applaud Ford for putting so much effort into its new off-road warrior.
Other manufacturers are content to slap an off-road sticker package and 22" wheels on their pickups and call it a day. That might cut it in the parking lot of your local mall, but if you plan on taking your truck off-road - and we mean really far off-road - the new Ford Raptor will be the only legitimate factory option.
