1980 Mustang Engine

The 1980 Mustang came with four engine options. A 4, 6, and 8-cylinder and also a turbo-4. No matter which option you selected, there are modifications to improve your performance. If you're in desperate need of horsepower though, replacing your entire setup with a crate engine may be your best option.

Modern crate engines give you the option to drop serious power into your Fox Body. With a Coyote, you can get four times more horsepower than your Mustang came stock with.

There are also parts to accentuate what you've already got under your hood though. A fresh air cleaner can improve your Mustang's performance. With the original overhead valve style engine, you have a lot of options for improvements. Upgrading your carburetor is one such option.

Improving airflow and cooling is an important consideration whether you're swapping in a new engine or improving your existing one. Keeping your engine cool helps it perform better, but also helps keep it in great shape for years to come.
