The Focus RS’s factory transmission is solid. The shifts are crisp and precise, and you can feel confident during performance driving. Still, some small aftermarket upgrades can make a big difference in your clutch feel and shift throw.

One must-have mod for the Focus RS is a new clutch pedal spring. The factory spring isn’t heavy, but it has an awkward travel and tends to "pop up" towards the top. A clutch pedal spring from Steeda will give you smoother pedal travel that stays consistent throughout.

Another popular RS transmission mod is a short throw shifter. You can install a new shift assembly, but there are easier and cheaper ways to get the same effect. With a short throw shift plate, you can reduce your shift throw length by 40% or more. This will give you a better shift feel, with throws that are quicker and more precise.
