Cobra Decals

When Carroll Shelby signed on to create the 1965 GT350, he lent the Mustang his fanged logo in addition to some performance credentials. Shelby claimed that the Cobra name and logo came to him in a vision. The front-facing Cobra logo he designed was used until 1967. But John Chun’s famous side-facing Cobra logo has been used since.

Chun had been recruited to work at Shelby-American to help with the design of the GT350 and GT500. He put attention into every detail of his work, including the Cobra logo. Chun thought Shelby’s original emblem lacked menace. He wanted the cobra to show its fangs. Using encyclopedias for reference, it took Chun six months to draw the cobra logo.

Shelby-American made the first Cobra Mustangs, and Ford continued to use the logo and name. It became synonymous with power.

A fresh set of decals can highlight a factory Cobra’s credentials. But Cobra decals can also be used to add a little Mustang history to your life. There are Cobra decals with Shelby’s original Cobra design as well as Chun’s fangs-bared version.

The Shelby-American and Cobra logos can also be found on other Mustang collectibles and attire. They're written about in length in Mustang books. You can even outfit your Mustang with Shelby-American’s performance Mustang parts.
