Differentials

Without a differential, your Mustang’s wheels wouldn’t be able to turn at different speeds. That would make it hard to carve corners! As your driving needs change, you may need to upgrade your differential.

Since 2011, all Mustangs have come equipped with a limited-slip differential. These “sense” when a wheel is slipping and limit the slip by locking your wheels together. This improves your traction.

Torsen differentials offer the same traction benefits but through a gear-based build. That means their parts wear out less frequently and run a little cooler, making them great for high-performance builds.

You may also opt to keep your differential but change the gear ratio. Changing your rear gear ratio can change your performance considerably. With a low gear ratio, you’ll get a higher top speed and better miles per gallon. But a higher gear ratio improves your acceleration.

No matter how you decide to build out your Mustang’s rear axle, you’ll want to use high-quality parts, like the ones from Currie, Ford Performance, and ARP.
