Get Your 2021-2022 Ford Bronco Lifted With a Spacer Lift Kit
Last Updated April 16, 2024 | Bill TumasThe Ford Bronco has a sizable ride height with the stock wheels and tires, but if you want a lifted look and more clearance for bigger tires, a spacer lift kit is a great option. A Bronco spacer lift will work with all your factory components, so they're not going to change the ride quality much from stock or cost a lot of money.
Spacer lift kits also fit most Bronco trims. However, if you've got the Sasquatch package, the Bilstein shocks cause fitment issues with most spacer lift kits. Otherwise, installing a spacer lift on your 2021+ Bronco is pretty simple. Follow our step-by-step instructions and you'll be riding higher in no time.
Bronco Spacer Lift Kit Install Steps
Be sure to pick up a Bronco spacer lift that fits your trim before you begin the installation.
Parts and Tools Needed:
- Jack
- Clip Removal Tool
- Impact Wrench
- Socket Set
- Ratchet
- Screwdriver
Step 1: Assemble Spacer Lift Mounts
Slide the supplied bolts up through the bottom of the assembly at the three attachment points. Push down the supplied lock washers onto the three bolts. The supplied nuts will be attached once the assembly is installed on the factory strut tower.
Step 2: Remove Wheels and Tires
Use a jack to lift your Bronco off the ground. With an impact wrench, remove the factory lug nuts on each wheel. Repeat this process until all four wheels and tires are removed.
Step 3: Remove Front Skid Plate
Use an impact wrench to remove the four bolts holding the front skid plate. Removing this plate will give you better access to the lower control arm.
Step 4: Remove Sway Bar from Brackets
Disconnect the sway bar end links mounted to the control arm using an impact wrench. Next, unscrew the nuts holding the sway bar in place and remove the whole assembly.
Step 5: Mark Bolt Alignment Location
When this installation is finished, your Bronco will need an alignment. To help make this process easier, mark the location of the alignment bolts so you can reinstall them in the same location.
Use a paint marker to mark the center of the bolt and draw a straight line down to the same location on the chassis. Repeat this process for all four sides.
Step 6: Remove Strut Assembly
There are three bolts holding the strut assembly in place. Use a ratchet to remove two of these bolts and set them aside. Loosen the third bolt, but do not remove it yet.
Step 7: Support Control Arm
Place a jack underneath the lower control arm and raise it so the arm is supported. Be careful not to catch the ball joint.
Step 8: Remove Lower Control Arm
First, remove the nuts and washers on both control arm branches. Next, slide the bolts through the aligned holes to remove them from the assembly on both sides. Pull the control arms down to remove them from the chassis.
Pro Tip: Once the back bolt is removed, the front bolt may still have pressure applied to it. Readjust the jack to release the pressure and remove the bolt.
Step 9: Remove Final Strut Tower Bolt
With the control arm removed, use a ratchet to detach the remaining bolt holding the strut tower in place. Make sure you have a solid grip on the strut tower, so it does not fall to the ground. Then, remove the assembly from your Bronco.
Step 10: Remove Alignment Pin
Use a pair of pliers to grip the alignment pin at the top of the strut tower brace. Pull on it firmly to remove it from the assembly.
Step 11: Install Strut Spacer Lift on Strut Tower
Grab the strut spacer from Step 1 and line it up with the studs until it drops into place. Next, take the factory nuts and slide them back onto the factory bolts with the spacer in between. Tighten down each of the bolts.
Step 12: Reinstall Upper Strut Tower
To reinsert the strut tower into your Bronco, make sure the strut tower is leaning towards the inside of the vehicle when the stud on the bottom is facing straight down. Slide the three bolts at the top of the strut tower back into their factory positions and loosely re-attach the nuts.
Step 13: Reinstall Lower Strut Tower
Line up the bolts at the bottom of the strut tower with the factory holes in the control arm. Once it's seated, loosely screw in the factory nuts on the bottom to hold it in place. Now lift the control arm back into position with a jack.
Step 14: Reinstall Control Arm Bolts
Push the control arm back into the factory location and reinstall the bolts. Slide the nuts and washers onto the other side of the bolt and tighten down with a wrench. Remember to tighten the nuts at the bottom of the shock assembly as well. Repeat Steps 1-14 on the other side of your Bronco's front end.
Pro Tip: You may need to use a screwdriver to line the rear control arm up with the attachment point by pulling the two sides towards each other. Make sure the arm is aligned with the paint marks from Step 5.
Step 15: Remove Rear Splash Shield
Head to the back of your Bronco and remove the two screws at the top of the splash guard inside the wheel well. The top screws can be removed by hand. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws near the bottom of the splash guard. Once the screws are removed, pull down on the guard with two hands to remove it.
Step 16: Disconnect Rear Strut Assembly
Similar to Step 6, use a ratchet to remove two of the nuts at the top of the strut assembly. Loosen the third nut, but do not remove it.
Step 17: Remove Strut Tower Support Arm Bolt
Use a jack to support the rear section of the strut assembly as pictured below. Use an impact wrench to remove the nut, washer, and bolt holding the base of the strut assembly in place. Then, unscrew the last nut at the top of the strut assembly and remove the strut tower from your Bronco.
Step 18: Add Rear Strut Spacer
Repeat Steps 10 and 11 to attach the rear strut spacer to the removed strut assembly.
Step 19: Reinstall Rear Strut Assembly Support Bolt
Reinsert the rear strut tower back into your Bronco and loosely reinstall the top bolts. Line up the lower control arm with the bolt attachment point and push the bolt through. Slide on the washer and nut, and tighten with an impact wrench. Next, tighten the top nuts on the strut tower.
Step 20: Reinstall Rear Splash Guard
Reinstall the pins and screws on the rear splash guard using a screwdriver. Repeat Steps 15-19 on the opposite rear side. Reinstall all four wheels and tires and lower your Bronco back down.
Congratulations, you're all done!
