How to Replace The Armrests on a 1965-1966 Classic Mustang
Upgrading the door armrests on your 1965-1966 Mustang is a quick, easy refresh that improves both comfort and appearance. In this guide, we'll walk through the install step by step, including tools, prep, assembly, and fitment tips for a clean, factory-style look. In the video above, we chose this simple, stock-style armrest pad and base kit that comes with all of the hardware necessary to complete the install.
Tools and Supplies Needed:
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- New Armrest Kit (correct factory color and includes mounting hardware)
Step 1: Remove the Old Armrest
Locate the screws securing the existing armrest to the door panel. Then, use your screwdriver to unscrew the mounting screws and pull the old armrest off of the door.
Step 2: Press the New Armrest Together
Identify the stepped sections on the armrest pieces. Then, line up the step on the armrest with the matching step on the inside piece so they seat together properly.
Step 3: Secure the New Armrest Pieces
Install the two screws on the underside/bottom of the armrest to secure the pieces together. Then, tighten the screws until snug.
Step 4: Install the New Armrest
Position the assembled armrest on the door panel, lining up the mounting holes. Then, install and tighten the screws connecting the armrest to the door until the armrest is secure.
Step 5: Repeat the Process
After you've got one side done, repeat steps 1-4 on the other side.
After you've done that, you're done!
