How to Replace The Armrests on a 1965-1966 Classic Mustang

Upgrading the door armrests on your 1965-1966 Mustang is a quick, easy refresh that improves both comfort and appearance. In this guide, we'll walk through the install step by step, including tools, prep, assembly, and fitment tips for a clean, factory-style look. In the video above, we chose this simple, stock-style armrest pad and base kit that comes with all of the hardware necessary to complete the install.

Classic Mustang Deals

Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • New Armrest Kit (correct factory color and includes mounting hardware)

Step 1: Remove the Old Armrest

Locate the screws securing the existing armrest to the door panel. Then, use your screwdriver to unscrew the mounting screws and pull the old armrest off of the door.

Step 2: Press the New Armrest Together

Identify the stepped sections on the armrest pieces. Then, line up the step on the armrest with the matching step on the inside piece so they seat together properly.

Step 3: Secure the New Armrest Pieces

Install the two screws on the underside/bottom of the armrest to secure the pieces together. Then, tighten the screws until snug.

Step 4: Install the New Armrest

Position the assembled armrest on the door panel, lining up the mounting holes. Then, install and tighten the screws connecting the armrest to the door until the armrest is secure.

Step 5: Repeat the Process

After you've got one side done, repeat steps 1-4 on the other side.

After you've done that, you're done!
