Flowmaster Dual Exhaust Kit American Thunder 2-1/2" With Turndowns Coupe/Fastback V8 1967-1970 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from High Quality Product Kit arrived with no damage. Though the CJ Pony Parts description states this product is shipped directly from the manufacturer, that is not true...my shipment came from the CJPP warehouse in PA. It was backordered, and arrived about two weeks from my order date. I am very, very impressed with the quality of materials an workmanship of the pipes, mufflers, and hardware. For those of us familiar with the inconsistent quality of many Asian repro Mustang parts, the very high quality of this kit is very, very refreshing. The bends of the pipes were absolutely perfect for my 1968 coupe. The hangers mounted exactly as intended. The installed system was perfectly symmetrical and tight to the chassis. A very nicely engineered kit. Not included in the kit were the header flanges/gaskets, just four sections of extra pipe for use custom fabricating headpipes to connect this system to your headers. In my case, I used a set of "header buddies" gasketless ball flanges purchased elsehwere, and I also needed to pick up some misc. pieces of tubing and connectors at my local auto parts store to complete the fabrication of the headpipes. The included instructions were a bit brief, and illustrations only marginally helpful. I found a better installation guide with photographs online. It helped a lot. I used a $100 Harbor Freight 90amp wire feed welder to fab the headpipes and to seal all the pipe joints. It was a weekend's worth of work, and I am very pleased with the result. If you have a lift, and are better, more experienced welder, it will go much faster. With regard to sound levels produced by this system, it is a louder than I would have preferred. This is highly personal however. The car previously had older style "Turbo" mufflers with turndowns just ahead of the differential. and was deep toned and overall quieter. The Flowmaster tone is higher pitch, and a bit raspier, much closer in sound to a later model Mustang GT with Coyote 5.0, but louder. My teen son, who is the primary driver of this Mustang, likes the tone and volume very much! All things considered, this is a very well made product, and I recommend with the warning that this is NOT a quiet exhaust.

Product Questions

Can this package be purchased with straight back tail pipes instead of turned down? Also can it be purchased with Delta 40 Series Mufflers? Thanks Paul

Asked by: Capt Paul
See P/N: CBF42 and CBF15, these are not available with Delta 44 Series Mufflers.

what exact muffler comes with this kit also will the scott drake tri y headers bolt up to this kit.

Asked by: mustang wes
The mufflers are Flowmaster Super 44s. Regardless of which headers you use, custom headpipes will need to be fabricated. If you weld, you can do it yourself, if not, you will need a pro to fab the headpipes snd weld the other connections.

What headers would be the best match? With little to no modification for a 69 mustang coupe with a 351w, c4 transmission.

Asked by: mattie
The best header to use with little to no modification would be a set of shorty headers, they will require a set of custom down pipes to mate up to this exhaust. With long tube headers you will need a slave cylinder lowering bracket and you will still need to modify the x or h-pipe to mate to the headers.

Is there a dual exhaust system for 67 mustang coupe for the 6 cylinder that uses the dual header.

Asked by: jbuck
That header kit will require the installation of a custom head pipe to go from the header to the intermediate pipe(s), as no direct replacement pipe is available for those specific headers. Any competent exhaust shop should be able to easily adapt any dual exhaust setup to work with a 6-cyl dual header.

Flowmaster Dual Exhaust Kit American Thunder 2-1/2" With Turndowns Coupe/Fastback V8 1967-1970 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: Bill: We have a special guest in our studio today. Alex, the regional sales manager from Flowmaster, is here to tell us about the company. Alex thanks for coming.

Alex: Thank you for having me Bill. How are you doing today?

Bill: I'm doing good. We all know the two chamber Flowmaster. If you had a Fox Body back in the day you had some Flowmasters on it. But what else can you tell us about your company?

Alex: Well, Flowmaster is an aftermarket performance exhaust manufacturer, Bill, that started off on the racetracks. Ray Flugger, the founder of the company, designed mufflers for racers that were being hammered for excessive noise limits. Flowmaster presents that opportunity where you're able to reduce those dB levels without having to hurt or kill performance. Flowmaster is also one of the most significant speed parts of all time where we are actually an innovative product different from the standard that's out there.

Bill: The two chamber Flowmaster that was the original product he was selling out of a suitcase.

Alex: The 40 Series, except with some slight modifications on the case itself. Back then it was a square case and now it's more of a round oval.

Bill: The other mufflers you have here, what can you tell me about them?

Alex: Here we have a 50 Series Delta Flow to the far right, which is a three chamber design, a little more subdued, a little mellower for those that are looking for less interior resonance. In the middle here we've got a Super 40, which is a two chamber design, a little thicker, a little wider, which is set up to handle higher output applications. To the far left we've got a Super 44, which is the latest and greatest two chamber design that Flowmaster has released in recent years.

Bill: Is that still based off of the original design?

Alex: That is correct.

Bill: I know Flowmaster has a lot of kits available for the 2005 and newer Mustangs. What can you tell me about these two kits you brought with you today?

Alex: Well, Bill here we've got a Force II exhaust system from Flowmaster. It's a direct bolt on axle back 409 stainless steel with a limited lifetime warranty, fully constructed here in the U.S. It's got the rolled edge stainless steel tip with the nice four inch diameter. All of the hardware, everything you need, is included within the kit so you don't have to buy any additional accessories.

This would probably take you an hour and a half to install out of your own garage on a weekend. Very subdued, very mellow kind of tone, something designed for someone who's looking for more of a performance aspect with a little bit of rumble, nothing too wild, nothing too crazy.

Over here on the right we've got the Outlaw System. The Outlaw is very noticeable, very aggressive. It's the 'hear me from a mile away' type of sound, something I would only recommend to those who are fully aware of what they're getting. It utilizes an Outlaw race muffler, basically a muffler that was designed for race applications that are required to run mufflers without a specific dB limit. Again, I only recommend it to those that are looking for the aggressive tone from Flowmaster. It is fully built out of stainless steel, lifetime warranty as well.

Bill: The Outlaw is available for '05 and up for both the 5.0 liter and the 4.6 liter cars?

Alex: That is correct.

Bill: We know Flowmaster that has systems that fit all year Mustangs, but I heard you guys are getting in other parts of the exhaust as well?

Alex: That's right, Bill. We actually just released a full line of stainless steel headers, ceramic coated, very high end piece. They look great. It'll compliment the rest of your exhaust components. We also just released a full line of catalytic converters, both 49 state and carb certified.

Bill: If you're looking for that classic Flowmaster sound, it doesn't matter what year your car is, Flowmaster has a system that will fit your Mustang.
