Have received several compliments on the upgrades. Had to remove the plastic mount from inside the opening to get it to work with my shift retainer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks Great in My Boss 302 I purchased this along with the matching e-Brake cover. Both of these items go great with the interior of my 2013 Boss 302. They match the Alcantara steering wheel in these cars perfectly. The plastic ring on the shift boot doesn't quite fit over the shifter of my Mustang. The installation video shows that a ring can be removed to allow it to fit, but I'll be darned if my shift boot had one. Instead, I had to Dremel out the opening just a tad. Once I did that the boot fit just fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Will not work with the Barton shifter. This shift boot works only with the Bullet style shift assembly found on Boss and a limted number of track pack GT's. If you're installing a Barton shifter, you better use the shift boot that comes with the leather shift handle found on most mustangs. I'll save this boot for converting the shifter back to stock.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value. Can work with GT style shift knob I can't believe that I kept the terrible pleather shift boot for so long! You certainly wouldn't mistake this boot for premium suede, but for $35 it is a very good value and major improvement over the stock GT boot. The shift knob interface cup on this one is substantially different though. To make it work without a ball style shift knob, you will need to liberate the plastic cup from the GT boot, chop the first 1" or so off this boot and glue it into your original cup. find the plastic ring pressed into the cup and pry it out without destroying it. Then you can peel the glue portion of boot out of the cup. This is how you will reinstall the new boot material. To get a decent fit you want to find the point on the GT500 boot where the diameter is roughly equal to the cup's diameter, then move a bit closer to the tip (by the cup's depth, maybe ~3/8", and make your cut. Test fit it by folding the new boot into the cup like the stock one was and trim if necessary. When you are happy with the fit, you need to glue the new boot in and press in the retaining ring. Make sure to note the orientation of the cup. It has two protrusions that interface with the shifter. If I remember right, they face side to side.

By Bill Tumas: So far, I’ve made some nice cosmetic changes to the outside of our 211 GT. For today’s installation, we’re going to remove the interior. We found with interior mods, sometimes, a small little touch can make a really nice difference. We’ve never been really big fans of the materials that Ford uses on the factory shift or an e-brake boot, so today, we’re going to remove those and replace them with the Alcantara suede units from Ford.

This Alcantara shift boot and e-brake boot are factory of the 2010 through 2014 GT 500 and make an excellent upgrade to 2010 through 2014 GT or V6.

A 2011 GT already has a Boss 302-style shift knob installed on it. Using the Alcantara shift boot, again, it’s designed as an OEM part of the GT 500. It’s designed for a stem style shift knob such as the Boss. For best fit, this is the style of know you’re going to want to use.

I’m going to start the installation by unscrewing the shift knob. We’re going to open up the rear door of our console and lift off the top plate. Make sure you unplug the harness before you try to remove it. The original boot is held in place just like our new one’s going to be with these little plastic clips all over the outside edge.

If you’re careful, you can actually reach your hand underneath, and you can access the clips and pop them upward. The top here is elastic. If you simply pull on it, you can stretch it and put it over the e-brake handle. The new one installs in exactly the same way.

The shift boot is going to install in the exact same way. There’s plastic clips all the layered on the outside holding it in place. You want to take your time. You do not want to break these plastic clips. The bottom corners will be the hardest. Once you get them started it comes off pretty easily. The new one installs when you line up the tabs and the corners and pop it in place. We’re ready to reinstall it in the car. Make sure you don’t forget to plug everything back in.

Depending on what shift knob you’re using, you may have to remove one of the plastic spacers from inside of the shift boot before putting on the shift knob. The last step is to reinstall the shift knob. Our installation is finished.

The Alcantara shift boot and e-brake boot give our Mustang a nice custom touch, and as you saw they couldn’t be easier to install. Figure on 15 minutes tops, and you’ll be back on the road in no time.
