Mustang Addco Rear Sway Bar Kit (1965-1966) Installation Instructions
1965-1966 Mustang Addco 3/4-inch Rear Sway Bar Kit
This Complete 3/4-inch Rear Sway Bar Kit from Addco will fit 1965-1966 Mustangs.
In many 1965-1966 Mustangs, body roll and understeer can be very big problems, even safety concerns, depending on how the Mustang is being driven. The addition of the Complete 3/4-inch Rear Sway Bar Kit can fix that right up, resulting in a much more balanced suspension. It even can be used with the existing factory sway bar, resulting in even greater stability.
2. Then, place the Addco
sway bar on the rear axle with the dip up and the arms leading to the rear of the car. Place the bar bracket around the bar and on top of the plate. Pass the U-bolt up from under the axle, through the holes in the plate and the bar bracket and start the nuts. Insure brakes lines are not in the way of the bracket. Tighten down the U-bolts snug, but loose enough to rotate the sway bar.
4. Place the car down and put the Mustang springs
under full load. Then, while under the car, push the end-link bracket up against the frame of the car and make sure it is centered. Use the spring loaded metal punch to mark the holes to be drilled, then put a drop of black paint on the mark to better see it.
5. Once the holes to be drilled are marked, remove the sway bar from the Mustang rear axle
and place it out of the way, as the sway bar arms get in the way of the drill. Once the sway bar is out of the way, use the 11/64-inch drill bit to drill pilot holes in the frame. Next use the 3/8-inch drill bit to drill to the proper hole size. You need to slot the holes with the 3/8-inch drill bit to ensure the U-bolt fits. Slide the U-bolts in to the hole and bring it out the other hole.
6. Reinstall the Mustang sway bar
on the rear axle and leave it loose, then place the arm brackets on to the U-bolts and tighten down one bolt at a time, half way then doing the other side. Then tighten the nuts down firmly and move to the other side and do the same. Once this is complete, tighten down the sway bar U-bolts. NOTE: Just snug them, do not over tighten them. Once this done, try to turn the end-link washers to make sure they rotate. If they do not rotate, loosen the sway bar U-bolts.
7. Double check install and clearance of brake lines. Make sure each of the nuts, which are lock nuts, have been turned with a socket or wrench and tightened all of the way. After that, you've completed the installation of an Mustang Addco Complete 3/4-inch Rear Sway Bar Kit
