Install Difficulty:

- Moderate Project
1. This is what the stock fan and radiator looks like in my vehicle. I have a standard 3 core radiator and it is time to install this new Mustang Scott Drake C3DZ-8146/8600 Electric Fan and Shroud Kit into my car.
2. To start, disconnect the ground from the Mustang battery.
3. Protect the Mustang radiator. I used part of the cardboard insert that came in the box with the fan.
4. Remove the old fan blade and spacer using a 1/2 inch wrench.
5. In my case, the original bolts could not be reused as they are too long, so I went to the local auto parts store and got four shorter 5/16-24 x 1/2 inch bolts. Attach the pulley to the Mustang water pump using the new bolts.
6. Remove the four radiator support bolts.
7. Carefully put in the new Mustang fan. I opted to disconnect the upper radiator hose, slide the fan kit in place, and then reattach the upper radiator hose.
8. Line the holes up between the electric fan and the radiator and bolt both back to the frame.
9. Attach the 12+ to the positive battery terminal and the IGN+ wire to the Mustang starter solenoid as seen in the picture below.
10. Attach the ground wire to the frame of the vehicle using the included self tapping screw.
11. Insert the temperature probe into one of the shroud holes, being careful not to damage your radiator.
12. This is the fully installed Scott Drake electric fan and shroud. Make sure to reconnect the battery's ground.
13. Next, you should check and make sure it works properly before you're finished with the install. To do so, turn the knob all the way clockwise and start the engine.
14. When the engine gets to normal operating temperature, turn the knob counter-clockwise until the Mustang fan starts.
15. Let the engine cool.
16. Start the engine again and verify that the fan starts at the desired temperature.
17. Enjoy your new Mustang Scott Drake Electric Fan and Shroud Kit and not overheating while sitting at a stoplight.
