By Bill Tumas: A couple of months ago we installed the Roush Performance Upper Grille on our 2013 Mustang Gotta-Have-It Street. The upper grille looks great and also provides a lot more airflow to our radiator. Today we're going to complete the Roush theme by installing the matching Lower Grille assembly.

The lower grille kit comes with mounting hardware, mounting tape, adhesion promoter, and detailed instructions. Unlike their upper grille, the lower grille does require cutting, so make sure you have the proper tools in advance. For this installation you'll need a lift or a jack and jack stands, flat blade screwdriver, 1/4' ratchet, 7 mm socket, 5 mm socket, marker, straight edge, air saw, and safety glasses.

Once you have accessed the underside of the car the first step is to remove the factory air deflector. To remove our factory lower grille you've got to press through these tabs. There are going to be eight visible here, two round the end, and another two up here that you're not going to be able to see. The easiest way to get them out is to grab the grille from the outside and push through.

We may need a screwdriver to get the upper tabs to pop free. Roush provides these metal inserts for installation. They have to go where your factory clips are going to go by popping right in here. This bottom piece is a little bit in the way so it has to be trimmed off. I'm going to place a straight edge across the bottom of the piece there from corner to corner and mark where we need to cut.

Once you've marked all your lines, you're ready to cut. Now we need to modify the lower slot to accept the clip provided by Roush. You have to measure up 10 mm from the bottom of the slot and cut it out to a square. If you don't have an easy way to measure 10 mm the cut out is the same size as the head of your 5 mm socket. We're going to use that as a measurement. When using an air saw it's a good idea to put a little painter's tape just on the outer edge to make sure you don't damage your paint.

Now we're ready to install the grille itself. The grille is held on by clips, as well as by this double stick tape. We're going to apply adhesion promoter to the grille before we put the tape on. The tape is going to right on the top edge here and the same thing on the bottom, so that's where we're going to put our promoter.

You want to give that about a minute to set up before you install your tape. I'm going to pull the clear backing off the tape. You'll want to leave the backing on. That's the last thing we're going to remove. You'll want to bend the red tab to the outside so we can remove it once we have it installed on the car. Again, keep the red tabs facing out. Now we're going to install our grille. Now you're going to install the provided clips on the back side of the grille.

Once you have the clips attached you can now remove the tape. Push down on it to adhere it to the bumper and do the same thing across the top. Once you've finished removing the backing from the tape we're ready to reinstall our factory deflector.

The Roush Performance lower grille really finishes off the look on the front of our 2013 Gotta-Have-It Street car. Installation will take you about an hour. You'll be back on the road in no time.
