1978 F-100 Parts
As the F-Series’ Sixth Generation drew to a close, Ford finally made some important changes to the F-100 pickup in 1978. Having remained mostly unchanged since 1972, the Ford Motor Company went to great lengths to distinguish the 1978 Ford F100s from its predecessors. Beginning in 1978, Ford ended the four-wheel drive option for the Ford F-100, which laid the foundation for the vehicle’s ultimate demise in the early 1980s.
In addition to the elimination of the four-wheel-drive option, the 1978 Ford F-100 received a major exterior makeover. First and foremost, a single-piece grille insert design replaced the longstanding split grille makeup. Along with being much larger than before, the grille no longer incorporated the headlights, turn signals, or the iconic ‘FORD’ letters. Instead of the grille area, the design team in Detroit relocated the “FORD” lettering to the base of the hood.
The 1978 F100 was a trailblazer in its time, but if your vintage pickup is still mostly stock, chances are that your factory components have seen better days. Because it has been over four decades since their heyday, the ability to track down dependable 1978 Ford F100 parts has become more difficult with each passing year. In an effort to save a few bucks, many classic vehicle owners frequent the local junkyards to find the sheet metal required to rebuild their rigs.
Pinching pennies will only get you so far in the world of auto restoration, and if you are hoping to properly revive your pickup, it is best to instead seek out quality 1978 Ford F100 parts and accessories. After all, if you go through all of the trouble to restore your vintage pickup, you certainly want to ensure that it is built to stand the test of time. By trading in the rusted out or impaired stock components for the proper replacement 1978 F-100 parts, you are guaranteeing your truck’s survival for many years to come!
