1979 Rear Axle

The rear axle in your 1979 Mustang is part of the chain of components that transfers power from the engine directly to the wheels. Without a properly functioning rear axle, you will have a hard time trying to drive and control your vehicle.

The 1979 Mustang rear axle was offered with either a conventional open differential or with Ford’s limited-slip differential, which they called Traction Lok. If you find your build has an open differential, and you’re planning on overhauling your rear axle, you may as well upgrade to a limited-slip differential for better traction and control. If you want to maintain the open differential design, swapping your stock components with direct-fit replacements will keep your car factory correct.

Either path you take, we offer everything you need from differential pinion seals to full axle shafts from industry-leading brands like Ford, Currie, and National.
