Don't you have to use friction modifiers when changing Ford differential fluid?? I Don't see that in the video.

Asked by: SMMM
For posi rears that use clutches you should add friction modifier.

Hey guys  I have two questions. I have a 2012 F150 Raptor what is the benefit besides looking awesome does this cover do? And with the Raptors fox racing suspension would you use the top fill hole or bottom?  Thank you for your time !!

When you install this Rear Differential Cover it will eliminate case distortion and ring gear and bearing cap deflection while improving support. This will lengthen the life and performance of your ring and pinion gears. Additionally, this heavy-duty cover dissipates heat much faster than the factory rear differential cover. Use the bottom fill hole for stock ride height applications.

So in regards to the top and bottom fill hole, for a 17 Raptor I assume you fill to the bottom hole?

Asked by: Robtor310
Yes, unless the pinion angle is changed then the top hole is used.

Hi, how do I know if this is the right size for my 2016 F150?  It's a 12 bolt rear 4x4 with 3.55 ratio.

Asked by: Quesiton
Most likely you have a 9.75 rear, you can check the tag on the rear. The only other rear would be a 7 lug 10.25.

Ford Performance Rear Differential Cover 9.75" F-150 2009-2018 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: We’re installing this Ford Performance Rear Differential Cover.

This rear differential cover was made right here in the USA of cast iron with a rugged powder coat finish for durability and a killer look. It's going to be much stronger than the factory one and will eliminate case distortion. There's also a much needed drain plug and a standard capacity fill plug, as well as a raised fill plug for increased fluid capacity for a higher pinion angle. It's designed to perfectly fit your 9-3/4 inch rear, so today we're going to install it on our 2018 F-150.

Okay, we have the truck up in the air. The first thing we're going to do before we remove the cover is take off all of these clips that are attached to the bolts. Now that all these are out of the way, we can remove all the bolts. Place a drain pan underneath the differential to catch the fluid when it drains and remove all the bolts. This top bolt, we're actually not going to fully remove, we're just going to loosen it slightly, like that, but remove all the rest. Now we'll remove the top bolt. Then remove the cover.

The differential's drained. Now we're going to clean all the rust off the mating surface with a piece of Scotch-Brite pad. Wipe it down with some Brite-Clean, get it nice and clean and now it's ready for the new gasket and cover. Line up the gasket so you know how it's going to install. Okay. Then install the cover. Get one of the bolts started by hand, then you can install the rest. We have two installed, now we'll just install the rest of the bolts. Once you get all the bolts installed and snugged up, torque them to 14 foot pounds.

At this time we're going to tighten the drain plug and our bottom fill plug, but then remove our upper fill plug. These use a 3/8 ratchet. Then remove our upper fill plug. The reason this has two fill plugs is because this upper one is if you have a higher pinion angle. Now our truck has a 7 inch lift on it, so our rear end is lower and it's angled up so it has more pinion angle so we're going to be using the upper fill hole for when we fill it. But if you have the stock right hut, you're going to use the lower one because if you filled it with the upper on it would overfill. So if you have a lift on your truck, you're going to want to use this upper fill hole because it gives you more fluid.

Now we're going to fill the differential with fluid. We're going to be using 75W140 and we're going to fill it up until it pours out of the fill hole. That's one. Here's quart number two. Alright that's number three. It looks to be about just under five quarts. Install the fill plug, tighten it up with a 3/8 ratchet, and our install is finished.

Okay, our Ford performance rear differential cover is installed. It's matching the theme of this truck really well and it looks way better than the factory one. It's like five times heavier than the factory one as well so it's a lot stronger and it's going to help with deflection in this rear end. You know if you fill it up to this hole right here, the factory one, it's going to take just under three quarts, but if you fill it up to here like we did it's going to take just under five. It should only take about an hour to do this and before you know it you'll be heading off-road.
