Today we're going to be installing a PUTCO tailgate accent panel kit on our 2016 F-150 EcoBoost. This PUTCO accent panel kit has black chrome stainless steel panels that will mount on the top and bottom of the tailgate, which will contrast nicely with our truck, giving it a nice custom look.
Installing using the pre applied 3M tape, installation should be pretty easy and straight forward.
There's a total of 3 panels that are going to be installed, 2 up top and 1 on bottom and before we do anything we're going to wipe the surface with some alcohol. The 2 upper panels are labeled for driver side and passenger side, we're going to start off with the passenger side. Line it up first so you know exactly where it's going to go before you take the back of the tape off.
Then, once you get it in a position that you like, we're not going to peel this all at once. We're only going to peel this much off and stick it back on where we know it will be lined up. Now we can go to the driver's side. Same process on this side, line it up before you take the tape off. Get a good idea of where it's going. Now, on to the bottom.
Same process with this big panel, just line it up, get it where you want it and then you can get the backing of the tape off. This will be slightly easier to line up because it's going to rest right on the bottom of the tailgate so you will know that it's level. You just have to make sure that you get the sides right. An extra person may be helpful when installing this lower panel.
Now, get all your fingerprints off of here and your installations finished. Our PUTCO tailgate accent panel is installed, it looks really good. It adds a nice look to the rear of this truck. Installation should take you about 15 minutes, you won't need any extra tools, but an extra set of hands might help. Before you know it, you'll be heading down the road.
