Novice skill is required for this installation.
Now, while the front splitter is year specific, the side splitters will fit all 2013 through 2017 Focus STs. They're going to install using factory clips and the supplied hardware, and they're going to match the front splitter being that they're made of the same 11 gauge aluminum, the same matte black finish. Like the front splitter, they're also made here, in the USA.
For this installation, you need a lift or a jack and jack stands, 1/4" ratchet, 7/16" socket, 3/16" allen key, 7/16" wrench, 1/2" wrench, clamp, drill, 3/8" drill bit, and safety glasses.
You'll begin the install by getting the car up in the air. What we're going to do is there's six plastic clips. We're going to remove all the factory clips first to loosen the factory side skirt. Once you remove the plastic clips there's two options here. You can install it on the car, but it's very, very tight to try to get all the little nuts and bolts in. The other option: just pull the factory side skirt off and we can do it on the table. There's just a series of clips up in the door jamb area, so open the door, just work your way forward and pop the clips off.
What we're going to do is grab the correct side splitter and put it down on the table. We're going to lay our factory side skirt on top of it. This hole, right here, is going to line up with the square hole right in the front. I'm going to grab the supplied hardware. This is a 1/4" nut and bolt, this is going to be smaller than everything else. This is what you're going to use up front, here.
What you have to do now is line everything up. Now, there really is no way to do it. What I've found works is take your factory piece, here, and line that edge up. I'm just going to put a clamp on there to hold it for me. That gets it lined up pretty good with the factory body lines. Now, with our clamp in the back and our bolt tight in the front we can start drilling the holes. I'm going to hold the panel up against it and use a 3/8" drill bit. What you're going to do here is take the button head bolt, that's going to go through first. On the inside, it's going to go washer, lock washer, and then the nut. I'll just get them all hand-tightened first. Now we'll go back and tighten them up. It's ready to go back on the car.
Now what you want to do is put the whole assembly up into place, not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands for this step, here, and you're going to line up the clips. Now, with that mounted, we can reinstall all the original plastic push pins, and we'll repeat the process on the other side, and your installation's finished.
If you're going to do the Rally Innovations front splitter, I would seriously consider doing the sides as well, as it ties everything together, gives it a nice custom, almost OEM fit and finish when they're installed. As far as the installation, they're not terribly hard. It's a little bit time-consuming, take your time removing those clips, but overall probably less than two hours to get back on the road in no time.
