How to Reset the TPMS Sensor on a 2015-2023 Mustang
Last Updated April 17, 2024 | Bill TumasIf you're planning on changing the wheels on your 2015-2023 Mustang, one thing to keep in mind is that the tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS, will need to be reprogrammed to sync with the new wheels and tires.
From 2007-2014, Ford Mustangs used a tire pressure warning light for low tire pressure, but lacked live indication of current tire pressure. From 2015 onward, all Mustang models use a real-time tire pressure sensor that displays live PSI values.
Performing a 2015-2023 Ford Mustang TPMS reset with aftermarket wheels is easy, but you'll need to follow specific steps to reset your system.
All you'll need is a TPMS training tool from Ford to complete the job. It'll take no more than 15 minutes, so you'll be back on the road in no time.
How to Perform a 2015-2023 Ford Mustang TPMS Reset
First, you need to reset the TPMS system.
Step 1: Press and Release Brake Pedal
Your 2015 and up Mustang uses a combination of brake and start button presses to reset your TPMS system.
Begin by pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
Step 2: Turn Mustang On and Off Repeatedly
Next, use the starter button to turn your Mustang on and off three times in a row (a total of 6 button presses).
Step 3: Repeat Reset Process
Repeat the entire process one more time beginning with the brake press.
Once this process is completed correctly the horn will honk to indicate your Mustang is in the correct mode to reprogram the tire pressure sensors.
Pro Tip: Make sure you don't press in the clutch while resetting your Mustang's system to avoid starting the engine.

After you've reset the TPMS system, your tire pressure sensors will also need to be readjusted.
Step 1: Locate First Tire to Train
The dash screen will prompt you on which tire is ready to be trained. Head over to that tire and pull out the TPMS training tool.
Step 2: Sync Tire Sensor
Aim the tool at the base of the valve stem and hold down the button to sync the tire sensor.
The horn will honk once to let you know that the training is complete. Follow the dash instructions to locate the next tire and repeat the process until all tire sensors are trained.
Step 3: Complete TPMS Sensor Training
Head back into the cabin. Once the sensors are reprogrammed correctly, the dash screen will prompt you with a training complete indication. Click “ok” to complete the process.
Congratulations! Your Mustang will now display the correct tire pressure for each wheel.
