How to Remove the Doors From a 2021+ Bronco

Whether you just want to enjoy the nice weather, or you're an off-roading enthusiast, removing the doors on your modern Bronco is a great way to improve your driving experience on the trail or highway. Taking off the doors on your 2021+ Bronco is easy enough to finish in a few simple steps. This guide will show you how to take the doors off your Bronco and reattach them when you're done off-roading. We'll also teach you how to use the Ford Onboard Storage Kit in the cargo area, so you can keep your doors protected and take them with you when you hit the trail.

Bronco Door Removal

All 2021+ Ford Bronco trims use the same door removal process. The necessary tools come with your 2021+ Bronco, so you'll be ready to take your doors off no matter where you are. The 4-door Broncos should come with front door bags and rear door bags. For 2-door models, you might have to buy your own set of door bags.

Please Note: The front doors are over 50 lbs each and the rear doors are over 40 lbs each. Use proper lifting techniques while removing the doors to avoid strained muscles.

Necessary Tools

• 13 mm Hex Socket Wrench
• Door Bags
• Lower Hinge Alignment Pin

Step 1: Prepare Doors for Removal

Head to the rear cargo area of your Bronco and open the panel on the floor. This area contains the factory tools for door removal. Roll the windows all the way down and push the side view mirrors forward and out of the way of the doors. Open the doors to the fully extended position.

Step 2: Insert Door and Fender Protectors

Grab the lower door and fender protectors. Work the protectors into the gap between the door and the body of your Bronco. The top protector should face the fender side, while the bottom protector should face the door side.

Step 3: Disconnect Wiring Harness

Open the door to your Bronco. Reach down to the bottom of the door, near the hinges, and press the tab next to the wiring harness to release it. Pull on the harness to release the connection.

Step 4: Remove Top and Lower Hinge Bolts

Grab the ratchet and 13mm socket from the Bronco tool kit. Unscrew the upper and lower hinge bolts.

Step 5: Remove the Door

Grip the door from the top and bottom so you support the full weight. Pull up on the door to remove it from the hinges. Set the door aside or place it in a storage bag to prevent damage. Remove the door and fender protectors as well. Flip the mirrors back to the driving position. Repeat steps 1-5 for each door.

Bronco Door Reinstallation Steps

Step 6: Insert Alignment Pin

Grab the alignment pin from the Bronco tool kit, and screw it onto the lower hinge.

Step 7: Reinstall Upper and Lower Door Bolts

Lift the door onto the alignment pin and line up the hinges. Insert the top hinge bolt and tighten it down. Remove the alignment pin from the bottom hinge. Insert and tighten the bottom hinge bolt using a 13mm socket.

Step 8: Reconnect Wiring Harness

Locate the wiring harness connector attached to the door. Reconnect the harness to the port on the body of the Bronco.

Storing your 2021 Bronco's Doors

If you've chosen to go with the 2-door model, your best bet for storage is a safe space in the garage. If you have the 4-door model, the Ford Onboard Storage Kit lets you take the doors with you. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Install Eye Bolts

Hand-thread the included eye-bolts into the pre-existing nuts on the rear pillars of the cargo area. You can make this easier by using the handle of the door toolkit's hex wrench to tighten them.

Step 2: Attach Cargo Straps

Identify the numbered straps and use the diagram on the harness to attach straps 1-4 to the cargo rings and eye-bolts.

Step 3: Secure Cargo Strap

Wrap the narrow strap around all of the rear headrests. Then, clip and tighten it.

Step 4: Set Cargo Harness Aside

Flip the harness over the backseat to keep it out of the way while you store the doors.

Step 5: Add Doors to Cargo Area

Slide the doors into the cargo area in the order specified on the door bags. The driver-side rear door goes in first against the back seats, followed by the driver-side front door and passenger-side front door. The passenger-side rear door goes in last facing the tailgate.

Step 6: Attach Harness to Cargo Hooks

Retrieve the harness from the backseat and secure straps five and six to the eye-bolts. Then, attach straps seven and eight to the remaining cargo hooks.

Step 7: Tighten Straps

Tighten all the straps down and you're ready to hit the trail.
