Last Updated September 6, 2024 | Kevin BrentFor modern trucks like the F-150, it’s important to stay visible on the road, especially at night or in bad weather. One popular upgrade to increase night visibility is installing new LED taillights and replacing the factory bulbs.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of installing LED taillights on your Ford F-150. These taillights have gained popularity thanks to their sleek, lensless design and impressive features like a fully integrated LED function, a super-bright reverse light, and sequential turn signals. Whether your truck came equipped with factory LEDs or not, these taillights are designed as a direct-fit replacement for seamless installation.

Required Tools:
- 8mm Socket Wrench
- Double-Sided Tape
Step 1: Remove F-150 Taillight Connection Bolts
Pull down the tailgate to access the 8mm bolts holding the taillight assembly in place. Use a wrench to remove the bolts and separate the taillight assembly from the frame.
Step 2: Disconnect Taillight Plugs
With the taillight assembly removed, detach the brown and green plugs from the factory taillight. If you have an aftermarket taillight already installed, you may need to disconnect an additional wire plug.
Step 3: Connect Lighting Harness to New Taillight
If your F-150 is equipped with LEDs from the factory, disconnect the BLIS from the factory taillight and swap it onto the new Oracle taillight.
If your F-150 is not already equipped with LEDs, keep the supplied resistor attached to new taillights. Then, plug in the supplied wiring harness to the new taillight harness and push down the red tab to lock it in place.
Step 4: Connect New Taillight to Factory Wiring Harness
Grab both supplied wiring pugs and attach them to the corresponding connector on the factory taillight wiring harness.
Step 5: Mount the Taillight Electrical Resistor
Locate the resistor attached to the wiring harness of the new taillight. Feed the resistor wire into the factory taillight housing and mount the resistor on the F-150’s shell at the back of the housing using some double-sided tape.
Step 6: Snap New F-150 Taillight Into Place
Slide the new taillight assembly into the factory taillight housing. Press on the taillight until it snaps into place.
Step 7: Reinstall Taillight Connection Bolts
Reinstall the two 8mm bolts to secure the new taillight. Repeat steps 1-7 for the taillight on the other side of the truck.
Step 8: Test the New F-150 Taillights
Turn the engine to start and check to see if the taillights are functioning correctly. Next, turn on your blinker and check the turn signal. Then, put the truck into reverse to check the reverse light.
