The idea of Ram Air Induction dates all the way back to the 1960s, and this simple technology has been proven over and over since then. The idea is to get cold, fresh air from the front of your 2013-2018 Focus ST directly to your intake and ultimately into your engine. And as everyone knows, crisp air means more power.

Steeda Ram Intake Scoop (555-3196) Features and Benefits:
- Reduces Air Inlet Temperatures
- Increased Horsepower and Torque
- Creates Natural Velocity Effect for More Power
- Molded Plastic for Easy OEM-Like Fitment
- Made in the USA!

*The Steeda Ram Air Intake Scoop is not compatible with the 2016-2018 Focus RS.

This Ram Air Intake Scoop from Steeda allows your intake to receive the most direct and non-turbulent air directly from the front of your ST. Since this intake scoop allows your intake to pick up a direct surge of fresh air, your lower air inlet temperatures will result in an increase of both horsepower and torque.

Steeda’s Ram Air Intake Scoop also creates a more natural velocity effect, in a way that the air flows from a large opening behind the grille of your ST to a smaller entrance into your intake, thus resulting in direct, free flowing and cooler air.

Video Transcript

We have a lot of comments on our air intake videos asking why it's considered a cold air intake when the filter's mounted inside the engine bay. The reasoning is that the air is actually drawn from outside, hence it's cold air. Now, the factory air box is going to draw air from the radiator support, it's in the very top corner up near the grill area. The problem with that though is it's not real efficient and the air is kind of heated by the time it gets there. This Steeda cold air intake tube actually replaces the factory one. Mount it down lower in the grill, so you're getting true cold air to your intake.

The Steeda cold air scoop is a very simple yet very effective part. Today we're going to show you how to install it but first we're going to give you an idea of how it works. Your factory air intake is going to draw air in up here so air is going to come in through the grill, kind of go up past the radiator before it goes in the air box. This is going to mount in the factory location and extend the air box down to the actual grill. It's now going to get air directly into this. It will also have more air effect at higher speeds so it will work with both a stock or after-market air intake system.

For this installation, we need a lift or a jack and jack stands, 3/8 ratchet, t-30 torque spit, 1/4 inch ratchet, 10mm socket, 8mm socket, 6-inch extension, 4mm allen key, Phillips head screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, Dremel or cutting tool, market, tape measure, and safety glasses.

Because of where the scoop's located, you're going to have to remove your front bumper cover to do the installation. This is a perfect part to add if you're doing a front core because you have it off any way. To do so, remove both belly pans and the rear splash shield here. We have this one off, the front one is held in place by some torque screws. Now you're going to go to each wheel well. There's 3 pieces of hardware holding it on. There's a Phillips head screw here, torque screw up here and a plastic clip up here.

The next step's going to be in the engine bay. We're going to remove 4 clips for the top of the bumper cover and then the hood release. The hood release, going to pop the little plastic clip out here. This goes in the latch. Make sure that once this is off, don't close your hood. We remove now the bolts that hold the headlights in. Reach back and disconnect the wiring harness. You sort of pull down and out on this tab and push it out. Once the headlights are out, remove these 2 bolts that are on top of your bumper cover. This section here is held on by clips. At this point, if you want you can try to see if they'll pop off. Many times it will. If not, there's actually 2 10-mm bolts in here we can loosen to get this off. They usually disengage on their own but make sure these big clips on your headlight are free so the bumper cover can slide off. Carefully back the bumper off. Get that fog light harness and put our bumper aside.

Now you want to install the brackets. They are sized specifically. They do have to go on a certain way. The right side one is this one facing downward. Once finished, it would look like that. Now you just want to pull the F1 radiator duct off. We do have to cut it because the scoop is basically going to go through this section right here. What we'll do, starting from the end, is to measure in an inch and then at 6 and at 8. What you're going to do is basically follow the rib. You're going to cut along here to our cut mark and the same thing up along this rib here. Once it's cut out, we're going to cut 2 small slits over here. This folds up, making it easier to install.

Remove these 2 pushpins here to remove the factory duct. The Steeda cold air scoop's going to be held on here by putting screws through these 2 holes here. What you want to do is get the screw in from the back side and then tighten down. This one's not too bad to get to. This one down here though is pretty much buried underneath this. We're going to pop the air box lid off, remove this factory ducting to make it easier. We'll slide the scoop through our modified inlet. Put the bolt and the washer through the back, through the core support.

Now that our scoop's tightened down, we can reinstall the bumper cover and the headlights. Don't forget to plug the fogs back in. Don't forget to reinstall the hood release. We'll reinstall the air box pieces we removed earlier. For the last step, reinstall the screws for your belly pan. Your installation is done. The Steeda cool air scoop will work well by itself with a stock air box. It will work even better with a cold air intake. The installation is not too bad, you do have to take the front bumper cover off but if you're doing something like an inter-cooler, it's a great part to throw on while you're there. Either way, it's not too bad. Installation should only take you around an hour so you'll be back on the road in no time.
