MagnaFlow Axle-Back Exhaust Kit 3" Competition Series Stainless Steel With 4-1/2" Tips GT 2015-2017 is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2015 Mustang GT with Magnaflow Competition Series I purchased my Magnaflow Competition Series axle back system less than a month ago and it only cost about $80 to have it installed and what a difference it made. Nice deep guttural sound that sounds like it's coming from the bowels of the car. That in conjunction with my K&N cold air intake has completely changed my 2015 Mustang GT. The response in the pedal is so much better and the sound is awesome.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brand new mufflers burnt out on a trip I bought this product from another vendor to get the black version. At first I was completely satisfied with the product. Installation was a breeze and the sound was perfect. I recently took a trip from Denver to Birmingham, Alabama and the mufflers completely burned out. The sound now is obnoxiously loud and unbearably raspy. the sound is horrible, as if there were no mufflers at all. I am in the process of getting replacements or my money back. The worse part is I am so disappointed, I loved the sound of this system before it failed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mustang Sounds like a Mustang Now I spent a LOT of time searching for just the right sound for our S550. There 5.0 sounds more raspy than the older 5.0s and I didn't like it. Magnaflow to the rescue! I wanted to keep close to the stock volume but wanted to hear a deep exhaust note. The Magnaflow competition is so deep and never gets raspy. With the factory resonator still in place, the MF Comp is only just a little louder than stock. This setup gives me exactly what I was looking for. The install only took 30 minutes. It was very easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation and sounds Great I bought this along with the MRT H-pipe. I did the install by myself in a few hours on ramps. If you have a lift and a helping hand, it should not take more than an hour. This combination sounds great and is much better sounding than the video.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Low tone sounds great! Been riding around with it for a month and I'm happy, it is very bassey, and at RPM 1500-1800 it can be a little too much bass for me, but once you are above that it is great! Nice to hear your mustang at an idle, finally sounds like a car with 435 HP should sound.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from DRONES SOMETHING TERRIBLE I wanted a deeper tone not too much louder volume than stock. I spent a great amount of time looking at u tube videos, reading reviews listening to sound clips etc. The PJpony video was very helpful. I really wanted the magnaflow street axle back but was told it was not going to be manufactured. With some reservations, I ordered the axle back competition by magnaflow. I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the system! I had it installed by a muffler shop and left the factory resonators in place. I had removed the resonators on my 2012 Mustang GT and did not like the raspy sound it produced. My 2017 mustang GT 5.0 has an automatic transmission and as you know it shifts into higher gears at very low RPMS. Everytime it shifts, the exhaust drones like mad. You can hardly stand it. It is especially bad once it shifts into 5th or 6th. If you shift the auto manually to keep the rpm up it is not nearly as offensive. The bottom line is that if you have an automatic transmission, this is not the axle back for you.

Will this system also fit on a 2012 GT/CS?

I have the MBRP street catback, will the MagnaFlow axle-back fit the H-pipe from the MBRP catback.

Asked by: PaxtonS550
We cannot confirm that fitment. Most likely it will NOT work. But I'm sure any exhaust shop could make it happen using a small piece of pipe or a portion of your factory exhaust.

I talked with an authorized Magnaflow dealer and he tells me that the later Magnaflow axle backs have been redesigned to also fit the convertible. Can you confirm this and if so I will be ordering them from CJ.

Asked by: Dan63
Correct. Our description has been updated and our inventory currently consists of kits that fit both fastbacks and convertibles.

MagnaFlow Axle-Back Exhaust Kit 3" Competition Series Stainless Steel With 4-1/2" Tips GT 2015-2017 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: Like we've said many times in the past, one of the first modifications many new Mustang owners make is replace the exhaust system. On the 2015 we recently showed you Magnaflow's Competition Cat-back system. If you like the sound of the Cat-back but are looking to save a couple of bucks, Magnaflow offers the Competition series in an axle-back as well. Today I'm going to show you how to install it.

The kit includes two mandrel-bent tail pipe extensions, a pair of Magnaflow's Competition series polished mufflers, leading to a set of four inch polished tips. All clamps necessary for installation are included. With an axle-back system you will have to cut the factory axle-back off. Even though you're probably familiar with it, let's start with the stock exhaust system for the 2015 Mustang GT. Again not bad sounding for a factory system but we know we can do better.

For this installation we need lift or a jack and jack stands, 1/2-inch impact gun or 1/2-inch ratchet, 13 mm socket, 15 mm socket, short extension, measuring tape, marker, Sawzall and safety glasses.

While the Cat-back is a bolt on piece that's going to go all the way forward, the axle-back will require cutting. Basically you're going to go back through here, you're going to measure from this hanger, you're going to cut the pipe off right here and bolt on our new Magnaflow axle-back. What you're going to do is measure 9 inches from the end of this welded hanger, down to this curved to flat section and that's where we're going to cut. Once you make you mark, double check your measurement and you're ready to cut. Once you have the muffler cut, the easiest way we found to get it off is simply remove this hanger here. Once you unbolt this you can slide it off the rear hanger.

Once you have the exhaust off you can go ahead and reinstall the factory hanger. Now we're going to install the Magnaflow tail pipe extension. It's going to go into place, it's going to slide over the pipe you just cut. It'll be hold in place by a clamp. When you slide it on it's going to go about that far on. That gives you an idea how much room you have with your cut. Don't worry about the cut being exact, as long as you're within about an inch you'll be fine. I'm going to slide the clamp onto our Magnaflow pipe and slide it up into place. Leave the clamp loose for now. We're going to put the muffler on next. Leave everything loose and then once we have it lined up right where we want it, we'll tighten it down.

Now grab on of the larger three inch clamps, slide it over, put this up into place. We're going to start with the hanger in the back and then we'll connect to the pipe. Once you have it lined up right where you want it, go back and tighten down both clamps. Repeat the process on the other side.

Now that we've made it through the installation, let's see how it sounds. Much better. Much deeper tone than the factory system. It's not quite as loud as the Cat-back was for obvious reasons. The factory resonator's still in place but it sounds really good and gives our 2015 a nice deep tone.

We're out on the road now with the Magnaflow axle-back and saw to get an idea what it's going to sound like for normal daily driving. Cruising speeds, honestly, you really barely hear it. It's louder than stock, not obtrusive in the cabin at all. It sounds real good. Right now we're doing about 60 miles and hour with a 373s returning just under two grand. No drone at all. It's got a nice sound to it. It's deep, you know it's there, definitely not overbearing, very nice system, especially for a daily drive if you're not looking for a drony exhaust.

Even though we had to cut our factory system off, the installation of Magnaflow's axle-back wasn't bad at all. The Competition series sound great outside the car and inside the car because the factory resonator is still in place, it's actually not that loud at all. It gives you a real nice deep tone. Installation is pretty straightforward, probably take you around an hour and you'll be back on the road in no time.
