1970 Mustang Fuel Tank Area

If your 1970 Mustang is like most classics, its fuel tank is in rough shape. While other first-gen parts stay in perfect condition thanks to regular servicing and maintenance, eventually, fuel tanks just rust. And when they do you need to replace them. We offer period-correct replacements as well as modern upgrades.

A Quick Swap

If there’s not much you can do to maintain or repair a fuel tank, one positive point is that they’re easy to replace. With your Mustang up on a lift or over a pit, it’s just a couple of bolts and fuel line connections to undo before you drop it and swap in a new one. That’s why many Mustang enthusiasts who are rebuilding a show or race car take advantage of having their tools out to put in a new fuel tank.

You can opt to replace your fuel tank with one that has a greater capacity, for fewer stops on road trips. Or you can upgrade to stainless steel, which is more resistant to rust than your steel tank was.

While you're picking out your new fuel tank, also make sure you're getting all the hardware you'll need. Putting rusty hardware on a shiny new fuel tank doesn't make a lot of sense.

You may also want to use this opportunity to change over to an EFI system. This modern upgrade is a favorite, especially for first-gen owners who like to drive their Mustang regularly.

We want to see as many classic Mustangs on the road as possible, and that includes your 1970 model. As you can see, a new fuel tank install is easy, and it will be one less thing you have to worry about when you get your pony car back on the road or track where it belongs!
