This is a first for any mass produced Mustang, though an IRS did have a problematic run in the Mustang Cobra nearly 15 years ago. Back then, the biggest issue was that that the chassis built for the New Edge SVT Cobra was not designed to accommodate the IRS. While Ford engineers attempted to overcome this obstacle by designing a special subframe to house the IRS assembly, the vehicle’s overall performance was significantly compromised.
