The Focus ST is arguably one of the best performance values on the market right now. Excellent acceleration, killer brakes, and killer suspension right from the factory at a very reasonable price makes it a very attractive little car. You actually have to knit pick to find anything wrong with the Focus, but one thing that comes a lot is the location of the gas pedal.

If you've ever driven one of these cars the gas pedal is actually very, very low to the floor, much lower than the plane where the clutch and the brake are. This creates an issue with some drivers where they catch the brake when they're going for the gas pedal. If you're not a performance heel and toe driving it's almost impossible to do on the Focus. If either of these is an issue for you and your Focus ST, I think we have a solution. This billet aluminum gas pedal spacer. We're going to show you how to install it using our 2015 Focus ST.

Thanks to this electronic throttle moving the gas pedal on the Focus is no big deal, because there's no cable attached to it, it's simply a plug and play. All you're going to do is unbolt yours from the floor. This is actually going to bolt in place right in here and here using the factory hardware. Then you're going to bolt the gas pedal to the billet spacer using this hardware here. That's going to get it much on closer to the plane where the clutch and brake are. In addition to spacing the pedal out from the floor making it easy with the clutch and brake, once you bolt it to this it's actually adjustable side-to-side as well. You can really dial on location on where you want your gas pedal.

For this installation you need a 1/4" ratchet, 10mm Socket, and a couple extensions.

The spacer is relatively easy to install, but it's going to be kind of hard to see since it's under the dashboard. What you're going to do, they'll be two bolts that will mimic these that are on the factory gas pedal. Once you remove the gas pedal this is going to bolt down in the factory location. The factory hardware will go in these two locations here. Then what you're going to do is remove these two nuts, and the gas pedal will bolt to these, and then you tighten them down, and adjust it side-to-side. Obviously, don't forget once you've done the whole installation make sure you plug the gas pedal back in.

We'll start by taking off the lower bolt on the gas pedal. Then we'll remove the upper. Pull the pedal down and unplug it. We'll show you again outside the car, so you can really see what this is going to do once it's matted. Again, these two holes for your factory location, and then this will now bolt to the two studs, it's all supplied nuts. All you've got to do is actually slide this side-to-side, and get it exactly where you want it in the car before you tighten it down. We're going to hang it on the studs, and then reinstall the factory hardware.

Get them both installed in place and tighten them up. Now I'll remove the retaining nuts from the studs, so we can install the original pedal. Now I'll mount the pedal on those studs, it's not a bad idea to plug it in first if you're there. These studs you just want to get hand tight, and then we can adjust the pedal. Here you can see the amount of adjustment you have, it's all the way over, put it all the way over there as well. We kind of set it up right over here. Once you get it where you want it tighten it down, and you're installation's finished.

At first it appears sort of low, when you look at it the gas pedal is in the perfect spot right now. It's right in an even plane with the brake. It's great for normal driving, or those track days you want to be able to use both at the same time.

It's a very simple installation, and it should make a noticeable difference if you drive your car a lot. The gas pedal spacer is one of the small parts that you probably wonder why you need it.

Once you get it you're going to wonder how you ever lived without it. It really makes the gas pedal that much nicer, and really puts it in a much better location, making it a fun car to drive that much more enjoyable. The installation's pretty straight forward. It'll take you around a half an hour, and you'll be back on the road in no time.
