Borla is made completely of high-quality T-304 stainless steel. It starts with a true x-pipe to replace your heavy resonator then goes for 2 1/2 inch Mandrel bend piping, through the Borla S-Type stainless steel mufflers, ending inside of their 4-inch polished double roll tips. We'll start off by giving you some stock sound clips then we get to install on our Borla.
For this installation we need a lift or a jack and jack stands, 3/8 ratchet, 13 mm shallow socket, 15 mm socket, 8 mm allen key, 6 inch extension, and a flat blade screwdriver.
What I've been showing you many times in the past, removal of the stock system is actually quite easy, but do suggest a second sets of hands to make it easier. First you want to do, remove the two bolts from the two rib brackets. Don't worry about removing the bolts. There's actually a little hook so they're not going to fall off. Now move forward and loosen the clamps that hold the resonator to the front pipes. I want to bend this tab up. There's a little stub that will stop it. They you can slide the clamp down. Now you can pop these little hangers off here. Now the weight's going to go forward, and you shimmy the system forward off the read clamps. We'll remove these clamps off the factory pipes.
First, we're going to install this factory clamps back on the factory pipes. Start by putting the Borla x-pipe into the stock clamp, I'm going to center the x-pipe and snug up these clamps. Don't tighten them all the way yet. You'll have to adjust them later.
Once the x-pipe's in place we'll move onto the intermediate pipes. Put a clamp on the front here and factory hanger on the back. Put it up into place. Same thing with the clamp here, just snug it up so you can still move it. Now, same thing with the muffler, install the clamp first, put it up on the factory hanger, tighten the clamp, now push it up where we want it. Check the fitting on the back and then tighten it down. Then repeat the process on the other side.
Once you're happy with the fit, we can tighten down the x-pipe clamps next to the factory piping. The last step, the factory hanger bolts. Your installation is finished. Now we'll see how it sounds with a Borla S-Type. The S-Type has a very signature sound. It has that aggressive raspiness. I know a lot of people were worried it was going to sound a lot like the Ford racing because Borla makes them. The S-Type has a completely unique tone.
I always liked the Borla S-Type on my previous Mustang. Absolutely love it on the 2015 as well. Like all Borla stuff, the fit and finish is top-notch and the sound is nice and aggressive yet really quiet when you cruise on the highway which is exactly what I was looking for. This system, I don't see me taking it off my car any time soon. Installation's straight forward. It's going to take you around an hour, so you'll be back on the road in no time.
