Today I want to give my 2018 Mustang a cleaner look on the back by installing a Ford Performance taillight panel molding.

This Ford Performance taillight panel molding will be a direct replacement for the factory molding on all 2015-2018 Mustangs. It's made of the 2018 style, with the grooves cut into it for a custom look, but no emblem for a much cleaner overall appearance. This is made with AVS plastic, just like the original, made right here in the USA.

For this instillation, you need a 1/4 ratchet, 5.5 millimeter socket, 7 millimeter socket, short extension and a plastic pry bar.

To begin the installation, you're gonna open your trunk and these two little panels right here, grab a small plastic screwdriver or plastic pry bar. We're gonna pop them off on both sides and then remove the bolts. When you remove these screws, the last thing you want is for them to drop down in the trunk, so if you have someone to help you, get the trunk kind of nice and even like that. That way, when you remove them, they'll come straight out.

At this point, the panel's only held on by clips across here. If you actually pull back, you can sort of see that. What were gonna do, put some tape along the edge here so we can carefully pry it off without damaging our paint.

Plug your backup camera and pull it out. And before beginning the installation, you want to make sure none of these clips got left behind. The new panel comes with new clips, so if these are in there it's not gonna go into place, so if you have any left in, just carefully pry them out.

More than likely your car's going to have a backup camera. If you have one of the early 2015 base models that doesn't have the backup camera, this is actually ready to install, as it comes with a delete. In my case, I do have the camera, so I've got to remove the delete and move the camera over.

Getting ready to put the camera over into the new panel, making sure I keep the orientation the same. As I can tell you from experience, it is possible to install these upside down.

We're ready to install. Ready to install our panel. A couple things to be careful with here. Obviously you've got to make sure to plug the backup camera back in, but these two pieces here, they go underneath here to lock the bottom in place, so make sure they are seated properly as well.

Now as you're sliding up, you're gonna notice here that your new panel has these pins on it and notice on your factory, at least on the '18 for sure, they are broken off, but this is just a piece of tape. This pin will push right through the tape and align when it goes on. To get everything lined up, just simply push.

Okay, now we're ready to reinstall the factory screws. Sort of pull down on the panel. Make sure the holes are lined up.

Now reinstall the covers. And your installation's finished.

As you saw, the Ford Performance taillight panel molding is very easy to install. It gives a nice, cleaner look in the back. I was honestly a little worried without the emblem these would look out of place but honestly on the car, I think it looks pretty good. You just saw the installation, though. It was pretty straight forward. This a half an hour install. You'll be back on the road in no time.
