
How to Remove a 2015-2023 Mustang Subwoofer

Removing your Mustang's subwoofer is also the first step in upgrading your speaker system. We'll show you how to remove your Mustang subwoofer so you can move on to your next upgrade.
Mustang Subwoofer Removal Instructions
The steps are slightly different for 2015-2017 Mustangs than for the 2018-2023 models. But don't worry, we've got you covered for both removal processes.
Parts and Tools Needed:
- 8 mm Socket
- Panel Tool
- Ratchet Set
- Extension
2018-2023 Mustang Subwoofer Removal Steps
Step 1: Open Trunk
The subwoofer is located in the trunk, so pop the trunk and head to the back of your Mustang.
Step 2: Remove Bottom Bolts
Unscrew the two 8 mm bolts at the base of the subwoofer. Put the bolts aside for reinstallation.
Step 3: Remove Upper Bolts
Using a ratchet, unscrew the 8 mm bolts at the top of the subwoofer housing.
Step 4: Unplug Subwoofer Housing
Remove the subwoofer housing from the cavity. Unplug the electrical components from the speaker and set the entire assembly aside.
2015-2017 Mustang Subwoofer Removal Steps
Step 1: Unscrew Cover Plate
Remove the three T-20 Torx screws at the bottom of the cover plate with a socket wrench to loosen the cover plate from the subwoofer assembly. At the top of the cover plate is a single T-40 Torx screw. Remove that screw as well.
Step 2: Unscrew Assembly Base
Once the cover plate is removed, it will reveal two 13 mm bolts at the base of the subwoofer assembly. Remove these bolts to disconnect the subwoofer from the trunk.
Step 3: Unplug Subwoofer Housing
Remove the subwoofer housing from the cavity and turn it so it's face down. Unplug the amplifier from the speaker and set the entire assembly aside.
