In 1981, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration standardized the vehicle identification number (VIN) requiring it on all road vehicles sold. The VIN consists of 17 characters which can tell you helpful information like the year your JK Jeep was manufactured, gross vehicle weight rating, engine, and where it was assembled among other things.

The JK’s VIN can be found on the driver’s side dash and door jam. Once you have your JK’s VIN number handy, all you have to do is enter it in CJ’s VIN decoder below. There’s no hunting and comparing letters and numbers to a chart, we take care of that for you. Using the VIN number and this decoder from CJ’s is the perfect way to figure out what your Jeep actually is, so you can find the right JK Jeep parts to get it back on the road or trail.
