During 1969, the 428 Cobra Jet Mustang was available with two different types of air cleaners. You had the option of an enclosed air cleaner with a chrome lid for Q-code models and a ram air style (shaker) air cleaner, which had an air scoop that protruded through a hole in the hood for R-code models.

This factory-style base is designed specifically for Q-code air cleaners with a metal-elbow fitting in the front, which is used to connect the base to the breather, which sits on top of the driver side valve cover via a rubber hose. It also has the correct snorkel opening on the passenger side and a port on the driver side for the vacuum-operated door.

Please Note: If your Mustang's 428 Cobra Jet engine is equipped with an aftermarket intake manifold, there could be fitment issues since most aftermarket intake manifolds do not position the carburetor in the same location as factory.
