We’re going to add a killer custom touch to the back of our 2015 through 2018 Mustang GT with help from X-Lume.

This custom emblem from X-Lume is going to look just like your factory GT logo when your lights are turned off, but this is going to connect to either your brake lights or your normal parking lights and add a nice custom LED light to the back of your Mustang. That's going to be fairly simple to install, and it'll be a direct replacement for the factory emblem.

For this installation, you'll need plastic pry bar, panel removal tool, 1/4 inch ratchet, 7 millimeter socket, drill, and a 1/4 inch drill bit.

So the first step in the process to install the X-Lume emblem, we got to open the trunk and remove this panel. All right, the trunk open basically just remove these little panels here. They're just kind of like press on and stick on. And we're going to remove the two screws underneath.

Okay now we're going to have to actually pop this off and to do it requires a little bit of prying. Just to be safe, I'm going to put some tape on our paint here. Unplug the backup camera and remove the panel.

All right, with the panel off, we're going to remove the stock emblem. What you're going to do here is flip this over and it's held on by basically plastic rivets. So you're going to grab a drill bit and basically just drill out the center of each of these to remove it. Then remove the stock emblem.

Okay now we're going to prep for the installation of the new emblem. Now if you happen to drill these out, if you get a little crack like that. Don't worry about it, as long as it's inside this edge it'll all be covered. Okay, we're going to fish the wire through this hole here. Then just make sure everything lines up. I'm going to use the factory holes. Once we get there, we can remove the double stick tape.

At this point, we're going to test it. Basically to make sure everything works like it's supposed to before we start the wiring. And honestly just because I want to see what it looks like. And it's going to tie into your taillights, so when you have your lights on in the back, it'll light up red. And it'll also light up when you hit your brakes.

The wiring's going to be fished for the taillight panel down through here. So we're going to pull off this cover to make it a little bit easier to see what we're doing. And these are just going to turn off. Then pop this off as well. Okay we're ready to reinstall our panel. We're going to do is fish our wiring harness through this hole up here. It's where your factory camera connects. With the panel in place, reinstall the original screws. Then reinstall the covers.

With the emblem mounted, the panel reinstalled we're ready to work on the actual wiring. Now what we're going to do is connect the taillight down here. There's going to be two options for connecting, which I'll get to in a minute. But to get the taillight, we're going to slide this back and remove this panel here. It's going to have four thumb screws on it. You're going to kind of pull this out and push up. Remove this little push pin over here. That will allow us to pull this down and access the wiring.

The harness we're connecting to is right down here. You want to make sure you got to connect before this plug that goes up to your taillight. So what we're going to do to make it a little bit easier, is just pop this off the plastic clip. Then disconnect the taillight plug. The X-Lume includes the wiretap. So here's where you're going to decide how you want your emblem to light up. You want it to light up when you hit the brakes, you're going to use the purple wire. You want it to light like we do when the market lights and running lights and all your normal headlights are on, right here brown with the yellow stripe.

What we're going to do here is take the supplied tap and put it through the brown and yellow wire. And there's a little sharp spike on the back of this tap, that'll tap into it when you thread it down. Now you're going to do the exact same thing with the black wire on the end, that's going to be your ground. Now you're going to take the extended harness that's included by X-Lume, going to connect the red wire to the yellow and brown, and the white to the black. I know it's hard to see, but basically what you do is you remove this screw on ends from the back of the connectors. Put the wire in, and when you screw the ends back on, it'll tighten down. So remove the ends, put them on the wire, and again put them back on. As soon as they screw down, they'll tighten the wire down against the plug.

All right, now we can reconnect the plug. Put the plug back on the body harness and then we'll connect the two X-Lume wires together. And here again, we're going to connect red to red and black to white. Okay, now we're going to use the provided zip ties and zip tie the harness to the factory back up light cam.

All right, now we can begin to reassemble everything. But the first thing we want to do is actually close up the trunk to make sure it works, by hitting the disarm button on your keys. Our X-Lume GT lights up like it's supposed to, now we can install the rear panel and then the panel on the trunk. And your installs finished.

The X-Lume emblem adds a really nice touch to the back of our 2018 Mustang GT. Now this is one of several different light up emblems available here at CJ Pony Parts. As far as installation goes, like you saw it's pretty straight forward. Probably take you less than an hour, be back on the road in no time.
