Everyone is on edge waiting for Ford to release all the details surrounding the 2021 Ford Bronco. Although we don’t
specifics yet, there’s a lot of speculation about what might be under the hood.
Since we don’t have any spy shots of the engine yet, this video of a Bronco prototype will have to suffice for now.
Watch as this test model Bronco tears through the Johnson Valley in California. Rocks and sand are no match for this
rugged rig. Whatever engine is hiding under the hood, we may never know. But one thing is for sure, the Bronco will
powerful enough to tackle the toughest terrain.
2021 Bronco Engine Options
When news first spread that the Bronco was returning, fans began speculating about possible engine options. The
2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 2.0-liter EcoBoost I4, and 3.2-liter Power Stroke I5 diesel engines made the shortlist. In
February, Ford Authority reported that the twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 will be an option. Paired with a
automatic transmission, this engine would produce 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
The Bronco is also based on the new Ranger pickup, which features a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine.
270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, this engine is likely to be the base option in the Bronco as well. We’d be pretty
disappointed if we didn’t see a diesel engine option, but we’re holding out for a 5.0-liter Coyote V8.
Go Green with the 2021 Bronco Hybrid
Off-roaders are notorious for being gas guzzlers. Many auto manufacturers are looking to change that. Jeep revealed a
new lineup of plug-in-hybrids that’ll sport a “4xe” badge. Along with the Renegade and Compass, the Wrangler will be
getting a hybrid engine option.
It seems likely that the 2021 Bronco will come with a hybrid option as well. With news of an upcoming Ford F-150
it wouldn’t be surprising to see electric engines offered for the new Bronco and Ranger. Now whether you would
want a hybrid engine for off-roading is a different topic.
