Battery Holddown Clamp Kit 1971-1973

Vehicle Fitment

This product will fit the following Mustang years:

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 71 Mach 1 required modifications to work This kit did not just go in easily. The bolt facing the radiator was about 1" too long and was jamming into my radiator hose, and had to cut with a hack saw. The plastic clamp is decent enough, but is threaded which means you can't just drop the clamp on the bolts and screw the nuts down tight. I had to drill out both holes to remove the threads, then it worked. Poor design overall for my 71 Mach 1.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well Works well keeping the battery in place. As others have identified, the holes in the handle are threaded and need to be drilled out so the handle can slide over the posts. Once that is done, it works well. I like that it is plastic - ultimately the only thing on my pony not rusted right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit Used this with repairing a cowl after removing a previous owner’s weld in tray. Secured to the new tray and grips the battery in place as it should with no issues.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hold down Worked ok after I drilled hold down out so that the bolts included would fit through it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery Clamp Same as NOS. I did drill out the thru holes as they were snug fit on the threaded rods.

I have the original battery tray in my '73. The square holes in the tray, into which the j-hooks go, are not directly opposite each other. Does the bar that holds the battery down in this kit accommodate the diagonal offset?

Asked by: swgjr
Yes, the hold down is offset.
