Novice skill is required for this installation.
This is MBRP's installer series axle-back, which is an excellent cost-conscious choice for someone looking for more sound on their 2005 to 2010 Mustang GT. It's made of 16-gauge aluminized steel with a set of polished stainless steel tips. It will be a direct replacement for your factory axle-back.
For this installation, you'll need a lift or a jack and jack stands, 3/8th ratchet, 13-millimeter socket, 15-millimeter socket, six-inch extension, and a 13-millimeter wrench.
First step of the installation, obviously, get the car off the ground. Now if it's a year-round driver like ours is, might see some rust and stuff on the bolts. Just spray a little penetrating oil on first. Make it a lot easier to get them off.
I'm going to loosen this clamp to separate the mid-pipe from the muffler. On this case is actually the clamp is off here. The pipe is still kind of tight. We'll try to tap it off with a hammer. Now, if you're still having issues separating the pipe like we are, the next step then is to go back here, start removing the hangers. It'll give you more room to work.
Now before we can install our new MBRP axle-back, we do have to remove this hanger because you actually can't get it up into place with this here. I'm going to install it on the muffler, then put the whole assembly up.
We're going to move the hanger over to our MBRP and put a clamp on and make sure you put it at an orientation where you can tighten it. All right, I'll put the rear clamp on here as well and just start getting everything hand tight.
With the hangers on, now we can go back and tighten the clamp. You'll want to repeat the process on the other side, line up the tips, and your installation's finished.
Our MBRP axle-back definitely looks better. Now let's see how it sounds. Sounds similar to idle, definitely deeper. It has a nice rumble without being too loud.
The MBRP installer series is an excellent choice if you want some more sound for your Mustang but are trying to stay on a budget. The installation's going to be pretty straightforward, figure about an hour or so. Be back on the road in no time.
