This MRT Resonator Delete Y-Pipe's going to fit all 2015 through 2022 EcoBoost Mustangs. It's made of T304 stainless steel with a 2.5" diameter and smooth mandrel bends for maximum flow. It will require cutting for installation and includes the necessary clamps.
For this installation, you'll need a lift or a jack and jack stands, 3/8" ratchet, 15mm socket, measuring tape, marker, Sawzall, and safety glasses.
Now we need some before and after sound close spread but I do have to tell you in advance the owner of this car is looking for maximum volume and maximum flow. In that case, the car already has an off-road down pipe and a muffler delete so it's going to be on the loud side already, but we're going to show you the difference between now and the addition of the resonator delete.
Here's your factory resonator on your EcoBoost. As you can see, it's huge, it's heavy, and it's also restrictive so we're not only going to get some more flow out of our exhaust, we're going to save some weight by removing it. Like I said, you do have to cut it. Two cuts right here on each tailpipe and then the front, one bolt.
What we're going to do is basically go to this flange, right here, wherever that flange is, and go back 4.5". Make the mark right there. Do the same on both sides.
Before we cut, we're just going to double check the measurement. To do that, hold they y-pipe into place. You can see exactly where it's going to sit, and make sure where you're cutting falls in this area here. Good there. Right where we want it to be. We're ready to cut. Before you cut, if you do have somebody to help you, it's nice to hold the resonator. That'll stop the pipe from shaking, makes it a lot easier to cut it.
With the resonator cut, now you can remove the clamp to remove it from the car.
Before we install the resonator, we're just going to debur the pipes here, to make sure we get a nice, clean fit.
We grab the supplied clamps and put them over the pipe. Make sure you put them in a way you can actually get to them to tighten them. Just slide it onto our factory exhaust. Now we want to line it up with the factory clamp. That ought to hold the pipe in place, get everything aligned, and then tighten it down. Make sure the front clamp is centered between the two pipes and tighten that down. Make sure everything else is tight and your installation is finished.
Now we're going to start it up and see how it sounds. Again, keep in mind this car has no mufflers, no cats on the down pipe. It's going to be loud.
The MRT Resonator Delete Y-Pipe is pretty easy to install. The two cuts are no big deal and it fits really well. It's definitely going to increase flow and save some weight on our car. Now, again, most cars won't be as loud as this one is because of all the pipes missing, but overall it's a great way to add some sound to your EcoBoost. It should take you about an hour to install and be back on the road in no time.
