Mustang 351W Camshafts
Upgrade Your 351W Engine with a High-Performance Camshaft
351W Camshafts
The 351W (351 Windsor) engine was used in the 1968-1970 Mustang, as well as many other Ford models. Its performance makes it a popular motor to this day in everything from daily drivers to drag racers. Upgrading your camshaft and valvetrain components will give you increased power and a unique exhaust note.
Companies like COMP Cams and Edelbrock offer a variety of performance camshafts. There are cams ranging from mild to aggressive, in terms of how much they alter the valve timing. Select a set based on what type of driving you do in your Mustang. No matter which you choose, a performance camshaft will offer more top-end power and a distinct sound.
Choose a standalone camshaft, or an all-in-one top-end kit. The latter includes the camshaft, plus timing chain, cylinder heads, head gaskets, and more. Each driver will want to choose the components that work best for their applications. It’s recommended that you start with exhaust upgrades if you’re doing a complete overhaul. Work from back-to-front, installing the cams last.
