Leo's 1996 Mustang GT Build Breakdown
Last Updated July 7, 2025 | Nate MoonisLeo's Story
Leo's story has its ups and downs, but it started with this gorgeous 1996 Mustang GT. He purchased it on his first day back from deployment in Korea in 1997.
At first, he intended to drag race it, so many of the modifications are based on that plan. Eventually it became a track day car. It had a roll cage, 6-speed Magnum transmission, and more.
Unfortunately, Leo crashed the car in a race just a few days after we shared the first video. Temperature changes caused issues with the brake pads and he lost control of the vehicle.
Luckily, he was not badly injured. He says that this experience taught him that it is so important and worthwhile to install good safety equipment.
Leo is a long-time friend of the CJ Pony Parts team, and Bill gifted him the legendary Krimpstang so he could rebuild. The automotive community rallied around Leo and he has been working hard on his next car ever since.
