How to Install a Rear Spoiler on Your 2024+ Mustang
Last Updated August 14, 2024 | Nate MoonisWhile the factory spoiler is an attractive option for many 2024+ Mustang owners, some will want to swap it out for a more distinct rear wing. A new rear wing not only looks great, but it also improves aerodynamics and saves weight over its stock counterpart.

Installing a Rear Spoiler on an S650 Mustang
In this step-by-step guide, we'll walk you through the process of installing a new rear wing onto your 2024+ Ford Mustang. An upgraded 2024 Mustang rear spoiler is perfect for enthusiasts looking to increase performance without sacrificing looks. We're installing a carbon fiber integrated rear spoiler from Anderson Composites onto our 2024 Mustang, but the process is largely the same with any brand or model with a few differences. The Anderson Composites carbon fiber rear wing is plug-and-play and doesn't require any modifications to work.
Tools Needed
- 10mm Socket
- 7mm Socket
- Long Extension
- 1/4" Ratchet
- 3/8" Ratchet
- 3mm Allen Socket
- 4mm Allen Socket
- T15 Torx Bit
- Clip Removal Tool (Optional)
Step 1: Take Off Trunk Stops
Open the trunk of your S650. Then, twist the two stops on either side of the trunk latch loose and remove them.
Step 2: Remove Trunk Latch Cover
Pull on either side of the plastic trunk latch cover and remove it gently.
Step 3: Pull Out Plastic Clips
Use a clip removal tool to pop out the nine plastic clips holding the trunk cover in place and set them aside.
Step 4: Detach Trunk Cover
Grab either side of the trunk cover and pull it off of the underside of the trunk lid.
Step 5: Loosen Factory Hardware
Locate the bolts holding the factory wing in place and carefully loosen and remove them with your socket wrench and extension. Be careful not to drop any of the bolts in the trunk lid when removing them.
There are seven bolts in total. One in the gap below the trunk latch on the trunk lid. Four in the two holes on either side of the first bolt. Then, two on either side of the trunk lid underneath the L-shaped cutouts.
Step 6: Remove Factory Wing
Grab the factory wing with both hands and pull it until it comes out of place. Then remove it.
If you've never removed the factory wing before, there is double-sided tap on the backside of it. This can make removal a challenge and will require you to pull and bit harder than normal to remove it. Just be careful not to break the wing by pulling too hard.
Step 7: Disconnect Back-Up Camera Wiring Harness
Unplug the wiring harness from the back-up camera. Then, disconnect the wiring harness from the wing.
Step 8: Remove Rear View Camera From Factory Wing
Using your T15 Torx bit, remove the two bolts holding the rear view camera to the wing. Then, remove the bracket to access the camera. Gently remove the camera from the wing once you're done.
Step 9: Extract Factory Studs
Grab the two factory studs on the wing and slide them out of their bracket. Then, set your factory wing aside.
Step 10: Transfer Rear View Camera to New Wing
Slide the rear view camera into place on the aftermarket wing. Then, place the bracket over the camera and use the supplied hardware to tighten it into place.
Step 11: Reinstall Factory Studs
Slide the two studs you removed in step 9 into place on the aftermarket wing.
Step 12: Remove Mounting Hardware on Aftermarket Wing
Unscrew and remove all of the mounting hardware on the stock wing. This hardware will be used to mount the new wing to your S650.
Step 13: Apply Foam Tape
Apply the supplied foam tape along the cutouts on either side of the wing. Then, flip the wing over and locate the four indents on the underside of the lip. Apply more foam tape on those four indents.
The foam tape prevents the aftermarket wing from vibrating at speed.
Step 14: Plug in Rear View Camera
Before installing the aftermarket wing onto your S650, plug the rear camera wiring harness into the camera itself. Then, tuck the wiring harness into the space provided on the aftermarket wing.
Step 15: Install Factory Hardware
Push your wing into place on the trunk lid and hold it in place. Then, open your trunk while holding the wing and reinstall the factory hardware onto the studs we transferred over earlier.
After you've tightened down those two studs, go through and loosely install and tighten the rest of the factory hardware.
Step 16: Install Aftermarket Hardware
After you've got the wing in place, go through and install the aftermarket hardware that you removed earlier.
Step 17: Tighten Hardware
After everything's in place and you're sure the wing fits, go back through and tighten down all of the hardware you loosely installed earlier.
Step 18: Reassemble Trunk Accessories
Reattach your trunk cover and reinstall the factory plastic clips and stops. Then, reattach your trunk latch cover.
Congratulations, you're all done!
