Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • 7mm Socket
  • 15mm Socket
  • Socket Wrench
  • Floor Jack
  • Jack Stands
  • Oil Filter (FL-500S)
  • 10 Quarts of 5W-30 Oil (GT)
  • Funnel
  • Drain pan
  • Shop Rags or Towels
  • Ziploc Bag (optional)
  • Brake Cleaner (optional)

Step 1: Jack Up Your Mustang

Using the floor jack, carefully jack up your 2024 Mustang until it's high enough off the ground to slide the jack stands into place. Then, move the jack stands into place and gently lower your S650 onto them.

Step 2: Remove the Oil Cap

Pop the hood on your 2024 Mustang and remove the oil cap. Then, place the oil cap on the hood latch to prevent accidentally closing the hood without it. This serves as a reminder to replace the oil cap after the oil change.

Step 3: Remove the Lower Panel

Use a 7mm socket to remove the bolts holding the lower panel in place.

Then, remove the three plastic clips and pull the front of the lower panel down to access the oil filter.

Step 4: Drain the Old Oil

Before loosening the drain plug, slightly crack the oil filter to relieve pressure. Then, use a 15mm socket to remove the drain plug and drain the oil into a pan. Allow the oil to drain completely. Then screw the drain plug back into place.

Step 5: Remove the Old Oil Filter

The oil filter is located in a challenging spot that can cause oil to spill onto the subframe and power steering rack. To prevent this, use a bag, a section of cardboard, or some aluminum foil to catch the oil.

Lubricate the O-ring on the new oil filter with some of the old oil and gently tighten it into place. Ensure the oil filter is snug, but not so tight that you won't be able to remove it next time.

Step 10: Add New Oil

Move back up to the engine bay. Using a funnel, pour 10 quarts of full synthetic 5W-30 oil into your 2024 Mustang GT. Be sure to check for any leaks or drips and clean them up with a rag or shop towel.

Step 12: Check the Oil Level

Start the car for about 15-20 seconds, then turn it off. Check the oil level using the dipstick, located on the driver's side. Wipe the dipstick, reinsert it, and check the level. It should be within the crosshatch area, indicating a proper oil level.
