Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality Installed this on my 1970 Shelby, and it caused the gauge to bounce all over the place. Took it off, and cleaned all connections to be sure it was grounded properly, and when I hooked it back up, it smoked. I took it off, and put the original back on, and it worked fine.

I just received this VR from CJP and just installed it but my alternator light stays on after ignition.I put back the old one which works and then went back and forth to make sure it wasn't something else. Why does the alt light stay on with this VR?

Are the internals of the unit solid state or the original points and coil?

Asked by: Sig70
It's practically a carbon copy of the original.

HI GUYS, WOULD U KNOW IF THIS VOLTAGE REGULATOR WILL WORK WITH A 100 AMP ALT. THE ORIGINAL ONE WAS 55 AMP. I WAS TOLD THAT SOMETIMES THEY DONT WORK WITH HIGHER AMP ALTS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW, THANKS,  RICH

Asked by: Mole
It won't work - it's only rated up to 65 amps.

What if my alt. has more amps? What will happen?

Asked by: Mema
I'm not sure exactly what would happen, but it wouldn't be good. We have notes on most alternators higher than 65 amps or so that they won't work with the factory voltage regulators. Some of those alternators are internally regulated, though, so you might be able to eliminate the voltage regulator altogether.
