Would this be a direct fit replacement for the backup lights on a 1967 Cougar, as well?

Today, we're going to install the Scott Drake LED Backup Light Kit on our '69 Mach 1 project car. While we're at it, we're going to replace the pitted backup light housings as well. The LED Backup Light Kit is going to fit '64 through '70 Mustangs. There were a couple of changes over the years, so Scott Drake provides instructions that are year specific explaining where everything is going to go. The kit includes the LED panels, brand-new lenses, hardware, and gaskets.
For this installation you'll need a 3/8-inch ratchet, short extension, 3/8-inch socket, 1/4-inch socket, Phillips head screwdriver, small pick, and safety glasses. Before you remove the factory housings, you'll want to disconnect the plugs. They fish up through the quarter panel and up into the trunk. We're going to start by opening our trunk.
The harness is going be down in the drop-off area. You'll want to pull your mat back. Find the harness that comes up from underneath the car and disconnect it. Now remove the two retaining nuts that hold the housing to our valance.
Now we're ready to assemble our backup light assemblies. First step is connect the bulb, the socket, and the new housing. If you can't reach, you can put a small socket on here. It makes it easier. Before you finish the assembly, you'll want to plug in your new backup light assembly and check the polarity on the LED bulb. To do that, simply plug it in, turn the key on, and put the car in reverse. Once you check your polarity, we're ready to install our lenses and finish our assembly.
First step is take the gasket, stretch it over the light itself, and slide it down into the body. You want to coil the wire and put the light on top of it. Make sure the wires don't get pinched. You want make sure they are down in the housing. Line up our gasket holes.
Now for our '69, we're going use these two plastic spacers. There are different spacers for different years. These are the ones we use here. In they go. Screw goes through the lens and the spacer is going to go underneath. This is going to keep the lens off our LED. Line everything up and tighten the screws down. Since you're tightening against plastic, make sure you don't over tighten.
Now we're ready to install the housings back on the car. Once we get the body gasket installed, we're going to fish the wire through our valance. Put our new housing up on the body. Install our retaining nuts. Now we're going to tighten them down. Once you tighten the housing, we're going to fish the wire back up through our trunk drop off. Push this supplied grommet into place.
Our last step is to go in the trunk and reconnect our lights. Now one final test.
The Scott Drake LED Backup Light Kit was a great first start to upgrading the lighting in our '69 Mach 1 project car. No one's going to think these lights are stock anymore. Installation should only take you around 20 minutes. You'll be back on the road in no time.
