1985 Rear Axle

The rear axle on your 1985 Mustang plays an important role in vehicle performance, transferring the power generated by engine combustions to the rear wheels. This process creates motion and allows you to peel out of the driveway, burning rubber at high speeds.

One of the main rear axle components responsible for this motion is the differential. Your stock 7.5” 28-spline differential is perfect if you want an authentic restoration without any power or performance upgrades. But, being built for the factory engines from 1985, it won't hold up well with a supercharged engine. If your modifications have increased horsepower, you should consider investing in an aftermarket 31-spline differential.

The rear axle's function doesn't stop at motion though, it's also the mounting point for the rear wheels and brakes. For those of you who plan to turn your Fox into a drag car, aftermarket axle tubes enable better brakes and a wider variety of lug nut patterns.

Whether you're fired up for a custom build or inspired by factory-correct specs, we feature parts and components from industry-leading brands like Currie, Ford, and PROFORM to ensure your Mustang stays mobile and meets your personal standards
