1994-2004
With the introduction of the fourth generation in 1994 — just in time for the brand's 30th anniversary — the Mustang was truly back. Gone was the little-loved hatchback, paring the car's body options down to just the convertible and the coupe. With that came a renewed emphasis on power and performance, thanks to the base V6 outputting an impressive 145 horsepower. Handling, as well as noise, vibration, and harshness, were all improved upon. It was with the optional big-block V8, however, that the fourth generation really shined. The 5.0 Mustang GT was reintroduced in 1994, garnering the Motor Trend Car of the Year award with its dual exhaust, stiffer suspension and powerful 215 hp engine.
In both 1995 and 2000, the high-performance Mustang Cobra R was available in limited numbers. Also available were the Bullitt (2001) and the Mach I (2003, 2004), both of which were restyled and slightly upgraded versions of the GT.

1999 Redesign
The fourth-generation Mustang underwent a redesign in 1999, adopting the sharper lines of Ford's "New Edge" styling. The GT's 4.6L V8 (which replaced the 5.0 in 1996) was further refined to output 260 hp.Special Editions
