One of the easiest and most common ways to customize your Mustang is with an after-market exhaust system. The rear mount mufflers in the '05 and up Mustangs make this an easy do-it-yourself kind of job. If you're looking for that real aggressive sound for your late model Mustang, you can't go wrong with Borla's Atak Exhaust System. Today, we're going to install the Atak Axle-Back on this 2013 Mustang GT.

Everything about the Borla Atak is aggressive, from the tone down to the massive four inch rolled polish tips. The whole system is stainless steel. It's a direct replacement for your factory mufflers.

We'll give you a quick before clip of the stock exhaust. Our '13 is a bone stock Automatic GT. Definitely not a bad exhaust system for a stock, but an aftermarket is definitely going to sound a lot better.

For this installation, you'll need jack and jack stands or a lift, 3/8 ratchet, 15mm socket, 13mm socket, exhaust donut removal tool, small pry bar, hammer, snips, and safety glasses.

You'll see the mufflers are located right here in the back of the car and they're held under the tail pipes by one clamp, so there's one bolt to remove. Now, we're going to work on removing it from the hanger. It's a good idea to put a towel of some sort over the tip so you don't damage your factory bumper.

Once we have it off the rear hanger, we're going to disconnect our tail pipe from our H pipe. This isn't necessary to do this. You can actually fight your way off the back, but removing this is a lot faster and it's a lot easier. Once we get that loose, we can actually just let it hang here out of the way. Now, we'll slide it forward off the front hangers. I'll spray a little lubricant into the hangers before we install our new exhaust.

The Atak requires you to reuse your original clamps. They're going to come off with your mufflers. If you look, there's a small tack actually holding them on. Using a small pry bar or a screwdriver and a hammer, you can break that right off. You'll want to put the towel back on the new muffler to protect the new tip, as well as, again, protecting the bumper. They are side specific and Borla labels it to make it easier.

Now we have the back two. We'll do the front one last. That's situated roughly where we want it and now, we can reinstall our tail pipe. First, we'll put the clamp up onto the muffler and now we'll grab our tail pipe. Now, we'll tighten up the H pipe to our tail pipes, and we'll tighten the muffler. You kind of want to center it on the rear hanger and we can hold it there while we tighten up our clamp and our installation's finished.

Let's fire it up and see how our Borla Atak sounds. The Ataks give us a nice aggressive sound from our otherwise bone stock Mustang. Our Borla exhaust not only sounds aggressive, it looks aggressive too. Installation should only take you around an hour and you'll be back on the road in no time.
