Right now I only have like two switches that work on this car, so to lock the door I have to actually reach over to the passenger side. So, I want to replace all the switches. And while I'm at it I'm going to replace the bezels, too by using this kit that'll fit your 1987 to 1993 hardtop mustang.
This power window switch and bezel kit's going to fit your 1987 through 1993 coupe or hatchback mustang. It's going to include all three power window switches along with two door lock switches, and all new bezels to give your car a fresher look and make it work properly.
For this installation, need a quarter inch ratchet, quarter inch socket, Phillips head screwdriver, and a small Flathead screwdriver. The process is the same for both sides, so we're going to show you the driver's side. This is actually a very easy installation. Any first timer can handle it. The first thing you're going to do, is remove this screw.
Before we get started, this is pretty much typical of what a lot of Fox body controls will look like. You can see the windows and doors. They're kind of almost worn completely off, as are all the controls. So the new controls will look a lot better, but most importantly, they're going to work. Now we're going to carefully pry it out. You can actually do a couple different ways here. You sort of get it in the screw hole here, you sometimes can get a grip on it, sort of work it out.
You have to lift up from the bottom. Now the switch is out, we're going to remove these two screws. Before we throw our junk bezel away here, remove these two screws and this spring, we're going to transfer this over to the new part. Now, grab our new bezel, and reinstall the spring. To remove the switches, you may need a small flathead screwdriver, but normally you can just kind of get them, give them a little bit of wiggle back and forth and they'll come off.
I'm going to use some canned air while we have it apart, just to clean it up. When you install the switches, there's going to be an alignment tab on each one of them, so you really can't install them the wrong way. Just line that tab up, just press them on.
Now we're going to install the switch assembly onto the new bezel, and reinstall the original screws. With everything installed, now we can reinstall the switch panel, make sure this spring gets underneath this bottom piece here. Get it seated, and install the screw. And then repeat the process on the other side, and your installation's finished.
Our new switch and bezel kit looks great, and best of all, it actually works now. So my doors will open, my windows will open. Like I said, the installation is very, very easy. This should take you no more than about 15 minutes per side, and be back on the road in no time.
