The turn signal switch on 1965-1966 Mustangs had 8 wires in total. The bottom of the steering column is where the wires would exit into two plugs. One plug is a 2-pin, while the other is a 6-pin plug. This new 2-pin connector is for the plug with the 2-pins, the 6-pin plug requires a 6-pin connector (HW2923).
